If you ask Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton how her campaign is faring in the wake of her many scandals, she’d likely laugh it off and blame her troubles on a “vast right-wing conspiracy.”
But, if the number of high-profile people who declined to attend her fancy Clinton Global Initiative gala is any indication of her current status, the Clinton camp is most certainly in trouble.
While a number of celebrities like Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg and Pope Francis decided that they had better things to do, one high-profile snub sticks out over the rest — President Barack Obama.
It’s important to note that according to the Washington Examiner, Obama has attended every CGI gala in the recent past. His absence this year was blamed on “schedule conflicts.”
In other words, he wasn’t going to touch that gala with a 100-foot pole. It makes sense, too, given the rise in popularity of his pal, Vice President Joe Biden and the assumption by many pundits that he’ll soon enter the presidential race.
Federal Reserve chair Janet Yellen was also invited to the event to give a speech on income inequality. She declined, too.
Oh, and so did the Huffington Post’s Ariana Huffington. Yikes.
The mass Clinton snub doesn’t look good for Clinton’s 2016 presidential prospects. If she can’t get her usual guest list to show up when she needs them more than ever, that’s unlikely to change in the future.
Sounds like there was an awful lot of leftover caviar.
