HARRY: Money Mob & Influence In Harry Reid's Nevada

by Daxton Brown
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's connections to money, mob and influence in Nevada going back fifty years (fourth edition). Revelations from Reid's first campaign manager and others paints a picture of a politician taking money on the side. Most shocking is the polygraph backed claim that Harry Reid took unreported donations from pimp Joe Conforte of the Mustang Ranch brothel in the years leading up to Reid's time on the Nevada Gaming Commission. Conforte's links to mob figures like Jimmy 'the Weasel' Fratianno and Johnny Simone mean the mob knew Reid was on the take. Also disturbing are accounts of Reid's long friendship with a lawyer to many of the most notorious strip clubs in Las Vegas - some of whose owners just did jail time for bribery and were Reid's political proteges. Oscar Goodman, Las Vegas Mayor and lawyer to the mob also enters the picture. Sweetheart treatment of land developers, the G-Sting scandal, fat cat campaign contributors and more taint the record of Senator Reid, one of the most powerful politicians in the U.S. and therefore the world.

In the Sharron Angle vs Reid debate on October 14th, 2010 Angle asked Senator Reid how he was able to accumulate so much wealth on a politicians salary. One would suppose that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is a fairly important person and many in the media would already have answers to this question. However, other than his self-serving autobiography, the only biography of Reid is the one I have written, titled HARRY, Money Mob & Influence In Harry Reid's Nevada. The absence of reporting on Reid's background is the usual slurry of bias, laziness and incompetence that we have come to expect from our press, so I became his reluctant biographer to fill the void.
Doing a book report on myself, either I have fabricated a salacious expose from whole-cloth and Harry Reid is an absolute Saint, or he is among the most corrupt whorehouse politicians the U.S. has ever faced (and I use whorehouse literally, not figuratively) taking money from every mark he could find. Everything I have researched about Harry Mason Reid points to such massive corruption that if only a small percentage of what I and others have unearthed is true, Senator Reid makes Charlie Rangel look like a choirboy.
The money shot is that in the early 90s I had worked with a gentleman named Don Williams, a well known and respected (sometimes feared) Democratic political consultant in Nevada who had run Harry Reid's early campaigns from 1965 (Hospital board) through 1968 (State Assembly), 1970 (Lieutenant Governor) and finally a defeat in 1974 for Senate against Senator Paul Laxalt. When I started to write my book on Reid in the middle of 2009, I of course immediately called Don and asked if he had any stories about Reid. Don had a haymaker:

I was in Reno during the (1970) Lt Governor's race and Harry called and said to go down to the River House (casino), and see Joe Conforte. I was interested in Conforte, because at that time he was bringing in San Francisco pollsters during the elections. He hired polling outfits, which was pretty unusual considering he was a well known pimp. We were able to get one big poll. I had run races where pollsters made lots money off us, but Conforte's polls were better. Conforte looks like a Damon Runyon pimp. We hit it off pretty well. George Knapp (Channel 8 Reporter) did a report on him recently down in Brazil, Conforte doesn't look like he's aged at all.
Well Conforte says to me, "I want you give this to Harry Reid." And he hands me a big fat envelope. One time Conforte took me to this double-wide trailer. It was pretty opulent and attached by a secret door to the Mustang Ranch Conforte had a whole wall of huge paper shopping bags with money sitting there and had me help count it out. Conforte also took me out to his car one time and showed me a whole trunk full of absentee ballots filled out for Harry. He actually offered me the opportunity to open the ballots to check them if I wanted, but I didn't want my fingerprints on there. So, you could say Harry Reid's campaign was partially oiled by the sweat of Mustang Ranch whores. Interview, Don Williams, 10-27-2009
Don Williams has since been polygraphed on his statements and I no longer consider them in dispute. The excruciating problem is that if Reid was taking money from pimp Conforte (who it is well documented bribed a flotilla of Nevada politicians over decades), it means Reid's entire career was compromised, especially starting with Reid's tenure as Chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission starting in 1977. In the popular media culture, that would imply that in the movie Casino, Deniro/Ace/Lefty Rosenthal really did give money and perhaps more to Dickey Smothers/Harry Reid. It would also imply that in real life at the Tropicana casino skim, Joe Agosto, the bagman for the Civella crime family, really did have a "Cleanface in his pocket".

Taking unreported money from pimps is explosive enough, but perhaps just old news from 35 years ago. Except as I continued to research I found a thread of examples of bribery that extend to the present and also include influence by denizens of the "Adult" Entertainment Industry, as well as vestiges of the mob right out of the movie Casino. Strikingly similar to Conforte's well documented penchant for bribing politicians in the 70s and 80s is the G-Sting scandal of 2003, where two Reid protgs (County Commissioners Erin Kenny, and Dario Herrera) took bribes from topless bar owners. G-Sting gives us an end cap to forty years of influence peddling, however, there are thirty chapters of events in my book detailing crony land deals, sleazy associations and intimidation which link back all the way to the pimp Conforte days. My research, and that of another author finishing eleven years of his own research on a book on Conforte, are still going strong and are headed towards a further dirtying of the Reid record.
The Conforte accusations would be old events if Harry Reid hadn't based much of his federal elective career on having been the guy who faced down the mob during his appointed stint as Chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission from 1977 to 1981. Could Conforte and his mob associates have had a hold on Reid during the 80s too? First be aware that pimp Joe Conforte had spent a great deal of money and effort bribing everyone under the sun to get prostitution legalized in Nevada in 1971. The number of bribed politicians is substantial, and admitted both by Conforte in a 2008 Interview with I-Team reporter George Knapp in Brazil, as well as being documented by numerous indictments and news stories beyond this articles' scope. Conforte also claimed in a 1983 DOJ testimony to have bribed popular governor Mike O'Callaghan:

In the early 1970's, Gino Del Carlo was a County Commissioner in Storey County, Nevada. In or around 1972, Del Carlo died. Since the Governor of the state had the authority to fill the term of a County Commissioner, [Conforte] wanted to be sure the Governor appointed a person who would be in favor of prostitution. [Conforte] asked Claiborne to contact Governor Mike O'Callaghan and request that O'Callaghan appoint Laura Del Carlo, wife of Gino Del Carlo, as the interim replacement.
[Conforte] was confident that O'Callaghan would make the appointment of Laura Del Carlo for him. [Conforte] explained that in 1970, he had "donated" to O'Callaghan's race in the primary. He had donated $5,000 initially, and in September, 1970, gave another $1,000 to O'Callaghan's wife to pay some miscellaneous bills. Towards the end of the year, he donated another $7,000 to $8,000 for O'Callaghan's campaign.
[Conforte] advised [blank] was a witness to the payments made to O'Callaghan's campaign. [Conforte] explained that the first $5,000 was paid to O'Callaghan at [blank]. He believe the future payments were given to O'Callaghan's campaign manager.
O'Callaghan did, in fact, appoint [Laura Del Carlo] to the County Commission. Department of Justice Interview With Joe Conforte, 1983 from internal Memo, as supplied by correspondence with Oscar Dey Williams, author of the book Conforte due for release in 2011.

Federal Judge Harry Claiborne, mentioned above and also a friend of Harry Reid, was impeached for taking money and prostitutes as bribes from Conforte. Governor O'Callaghan was Reid's mentor, first as high school teacher and boxing coach to eventually appointing Reid to the Gaming Commission in 1977 after Reid's failed Senate race against Paul Laxalt. Moreover, the late Pete Echeverria, who chaired the Nevada Gaming Commission before Reid, was also a former lawyer to Joe Conforte during a catch-all tax evasion trial in 1963 (really pandering and intimidation). Plus we have Don Williams polygraphed statement that he picked up money from Conforte for Reid on two campaigns. In short, we aren't arguing whether my history of Reid corruption is plausible, only whether it is 100% accurate and despite all the evidence Reid somehow miraculously remained a Saint amongst the corrupt.
My conjecture is that Reid was juiced into the Gaming Commission Chairmanship by Joe Conforte. What is little understood is that Joe Conforte, along with a mob associate named John Simone and possibly Jimmy "the Weasel" Fratianno, had delusions that they could get licensed as casino operators as late as 1976. Simone and Conforte had met in 1974 at the Canyon Country Club Hotel in Palm Springs to discuss building a casino, and Conforte had followed through by buying 300 some odd acres near Sparks Nevada (which also devolved into a Commissioner being bribed, a common theme). According to an article by Mike Oliva in the March 21st, 1976 Nevada State Journal:

Conforte also denied knowing any of the figures with whom police say he met in Palm Springs.
"Hey, I don't have anything to do with these Mafias," the brothel operator said . "Everybody always wants to say I'm with the Mafias I'm not a Mafia".
However, Conforte did say he'd like to see his hillside property across from the golf course site turn into a casino center.
"There's nothing I'd like better than to see five hotels the size of the MGM Grand on that hillside," he said. "There'd be nothing better for the community, ''
Despite the protestations of innocence from a multiply convicted pimp, one can hypothesize that Harry Reid was juiced into the appointive Chairmanship of the Nevada Gaming Commission in 1977 specifically so he could help get Joe Conforte and others a casino license. Some might call that a slander, but if Don Williams' polygraphed statement is correct about picking up money from Conforte for Reid, then the entire Harry Reid mythic story collapses in doubt. Certainly, Reid overlooked other dubious gaming application during his Commission tenure, notably at the Aladdin with entertainer Wayne Newton and also when the hundreds of pages of FBI files on the mob connections of Frank Sinatra were ignored when Sinatra came before the gaming commission.
Also potentially significant is that Reid's long time good friend, Lawyer Jay Brown, was helping represent mob crooks Joe Agosto and Deil Gustafson at the Tropicana skim in the late 70s and 80s while best friend Reid was on the Commission. Reid claims his friendship with Brown was never abused and he was never influenced, though that isn't what notorious Lefty Rosenthal thought when he commented on his view of Brown's defense capabilities.

One lesson, if I need a friend I'll buy a dog! As for Jay Brown, he never returned my calls and continues to practice his style of bullshit. If I sound bitter, I apologize, I'm really not. Time heals most wounds. Feature Story: State Gamers Petition Supreme Court (Desert Rats 3) Posted by Frank Rosenthal on January 22, 1999
Lefty's disappointment in Jay Brown was most likely because Brown and partner mob lawyer Oscar Goodman had implied their friendship with Harry Reid would save the day. While Lefty did end up in the Black Book, it is never clear what motivated the mob at that point in time because Jimmy "the Weasel" Fratianno was squealing, Frank "the Bomp" Bompensiero had been executed for being a rat, and Tony "the Ant" Spilotro was under FBI pressure. So we just don't know whether Reid was on the take while his best friend was representing mobsters, or whether there is a tooth fairy. However, a critical casino owner from that period tells me "everyone knew Reid was on the take".
Reid has often claimed through the years that he has not abused Lawyer to Lawyer firewalls, especially the one he has with friend Jay Brown. For example, in 2009 supposedly Reid never contacted lawyer/nude bar owner Dominic Gentile when State Attorney General Catherine Cortes Mastos was contemplating offering Gentile $425,000 to prosecute Lt. Governor Brian Krolicki on later dismissed and unfounded embezzlement charges ("coincidentally" Krolicky was then the presumptive opponent for Reid's Senate seat). Then there are the land deals. In 2002 there were the reports of the suspicious Patrick Lane deal in partnership with ubiquitous friend Jay Brown where $750,00 was hidden in a game of ownership musical chairs. Then there is the 250 acres of Reid's Searchlight land (55 acres co-owned with Jay Brown) that was being jockeyed into position to be a potentially $50 million development with shady builder Jim Rhodes (the four lane improved highway to Searchlight goes right by Reid's land). Then there are the shenanigans involving the Coyote Springs development of lawyer/friend Harvey Whittemore where Reid moved mountains to obtain transmission line and desert tortoise rights now defunct the land is being repositioned for largess from a solar plant operator. Currently there is the Anderson Dairy scandal where dairyman (with real cows) and Republican member of the State Assembly Ed Goedart was forced to ship milk to California, then ship California milk back to Nevada while Reid supporter Andersen Dairy is given a waiver.

Then there is Reid's saving jobs at the City Center megaresort complex. Reid strong-armed money from banks to finish the project, supposedly to save jobs. In reality, Reid succeeded in bailing out long time friend and top contributor Kirk Kerkorian and the MGM as well as partner Dubai World and notorious Pansy Ho. Reid could have saved multiple other projects in the Vegas Valley, but chose his friends.
In a September 15th townhall meeting in the Summerlin community in Las Vegas, there was a surrogate debate between Sig Rogich (who now heads Republicans for Reid and stood in for Reid) and Richard Ziser (who ran against Reid in 2004 and stood in for Sharron Angle). I asked Mr. Rogich directly if he thought Don Williams was a liar about Reid's connections to Conforte. Rogich replied that he had called Williams recently and that they simply had different recollections of events and these were in any case old events. Most telling, Mr. Rogich refused to commit Senator Reid to taking a polygraph to clear his name. Of course Rogich wasn't there at the Conforte payoffs, so couldn't know their validity. Clearly, once on the corruption rollercoaster a politician can't really get off, so lobbyist Rogich's contention that this was something from the distant past is strictly wishful spin.
Sadly, Rogich himself is part of a quid pro quo with Reid regarding something called the DesertXpress high-speed rail where Rogich stands to reap huge rewards during the building of a high speed rail from Las Vegas to Los Angeles. Immediately after Reid endorsed the DesertXpress over the rival Maglev technology, Rogich started the Republicans for Reid PAC. Laughably, the DesertXpress technology is so inferior that it would dead-end in Victorville unable to overcome the grade at the Cajon Pass to Los Angeles.

I could go on and on, and indeed I have in a book which continues to grow (it is published through Amazon.com with just-in-time printing technology, so I can update the edition regularly). But here is the truly disturbing part, as an author I have at least ten story lines that I can't even go into because they take the form of Reid getting a kickback from X, but the source is afraid to talk publicly. Is it fair as an author to drop hints that a subject (even a politician) is even dirtier than you can say, and then not divulge sources on record? It certainly is not fair, but neither is the way Harry Reid conducts his intimidation campaigns in Nevada. These aren't nice people, they are thug leftovers from the movie Casino.
People can judge for themselves, read my book and then see if Harry Reid is willing to take a polygraph that he never took money from Joe Conforte. Either Harry Reid is oblivious to fifty years of corruption, or he is part of all of it. Either scenario should give Nevada voters and American's in general the absolute Halloween willies.

WORLD EXCLUSIVE: OBAMA MARRIAGE EXPLODES!!!

obama_stry_1
oped: This is way too funny...however not really a surprise...the Obama marriage has been a fraud since day one...Barry is bi-sexual and probably hit on her in order to have it all being that her husband is also bi-sexual!

by Dylan
I’VE had enough!” Furious first lady Michelle Obama hurled those fighting words at her husband after he publicly humiliated her by flirting with a leggy blonde foreign leader at South African icon Nelson Mandela’s memorial service, sources say.

In a bombshell world exclusive, The ENQUIRER has learned that in the wake of the mortifying incident, President Barack Obama and his wife are now sleeping in separate White House bedrooms.
Sources say an enraged Michelle is also preparing to boot her hubby of 21 years out of their ritzy Chicago home – and seriously discussing divorce.
“The smart money says the marriage is doomed,” said a close source.
“Barack and Michelle have had a rocky go for years and mainly stayed together for their daughters and his political career  But now Michelle is mad AS hell. She feels violated in front of the whole world, and screamed at him, ‘I’ve had enough!’

“She’s met with divorce lawyers and told Barack that she wants a life apart from him.”
An Oval Office insider added: “Michelle will stay in the White House for the rest of Barack’s term for appearances’ sake, but she made it clear they’ll be leading separate lives.
“She’s moving into one of the vacant bedrooms in the family’s private living quarters, and she’s preparing to move his clothes and personal things out of their million-dollar house in Chicago.”
Sources say Michelle, 49, hit the roof after her lusty hubby was photographed brazenly flirting with Denmark’s dishy female prime minister, Helle Thorning-Schmidt, during the service for former South African president Mandela.
Obama, 52, laughed and whispered with the 46-year-old Danish beauty throughout the solemn ceremony, at one point cavalierly caressing her shoulder.
The two also playfully snapped a “selfie” photograph together while Michelle shot daggers at them.

The Danish press has dubbed Thorning-Schmidt “Gucci Helle” for her love of designer clothes.
While she lives in Copenhagen, her husband resides in Davos, Switzerland, and the couple’s accountant reportedly said that her husband was “gay or maybe bisexual.”
Obama’s outrageous antics with her made him the butt of international ridicule, with American media outlets going on the attack. New York Post” columnist Andrea Peyser blasted: “(Mandela) was a man who Obama compared at the memorial to Abraham Lincoln, Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King. And here was the president, publicly behaving as if he was plotting his next hook-up. It was unseemly.
“…Not to be outdone by the president’s bad behavior, the Danish hellcat hiked up her skirt to expose long Scandinavian legs covered by nothing more substantial than sheer black stockings.”
Famed body language expert Dr. Lillian Glass, who evaluated the photographs at The ENQUIRER’s request, was appalled at the president’s behavior. “This was clearly extremely humiliating for the first lady,” Dr. Glass told The ENQUIRER.

“The president effectively ignored her and acted like he and the Danish prime minister were the only two people around. And he did this with the whole world watching.
“The photos show Michelle going through a series of emotions, ranging from shock to anger and extreme jealousy. I think there are many changes occurring in their relationship.”
The president’s staff was also quick to criticize his horn-dog conduct, sources say.
“Barack already had enough headaches with his public approval rating plummeting after the disastrous rollout of his ‘Obamacare’ health plan. Now he’s walked smack into the worst marital crisis of his life,” said the White House insider.
“Behind the scenes, his advisers chewed him out, saying the photographic images of his frat-boy hijinks will haunt him forever.

“On top of that, women voters have bombarded the White House with letters, phone calls and emails expressing sympathy for the first lady and anger at the president.
“Even Obama’s top female advisers and friends like Valerie Jarrett were disappointed with him.”
Sadly for Michelle, the spectacle in South Africa wasn’t the first time the charmer-in-chief has crossed the line with other women.
But the couple’s fight over his behavior with the sexy Danish leader was the worst ever, “and they’ve had some doozies,” said the White House insider.
“Rather than unloading on him in South Africa, where their privacy was not guaranteed, or on Air Force One among other high-ranking dignitaries, including George and Laura Bush and Hillary Clinton, Michelle reserved her fury until they were back in their private quarters in the White House. Then she went ballistic behind closed doors.

“Barack has humiliated Michelle before, but this incident was played out on the world stage. Practically everybody on the planet saw what he did and realized that the president has absolutely no respect for his wife.
Meanwhile, The ENQUIRER has learned the first couple plans to live nearly 5,000 miles apart when their days at the White House come to an end. Obama reportedly plans to settle in his native Hawaii, where his presidential library and political center will be located. Sources say he’ll live with his longtime pal Bobby Titcomb, who was busted for soliciting a prostitute in 2011.
Michelle will remain in Washington, D.C., until the couple’s youngest daughter Sasha, 12, finishes high school. Daughter Malia, 15, is a high school sophomore.
For now, Michelle is gearing up for a nasty divorce battle. But sources say she’ll most likely wait to slap Barack with divorce papers until after he leaves the Oval Office, when he’ll likely earn more than $30 million in book deals and bank $65 million in appearance fees.

“Now that Barack has embarrassed Michelle in front of the world, he’s going to pay a big, big price,” said the insider. “Michelle has said she wants a huge chunk of his net worth.
“This divorce is going to cost him a fortune.”

Israel's Christian Awakening

By
As Christmas neared, an 85-foot-high tree presided over the little square in front of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation in Nazareth. Kindergarten children with Santa Claus hats entered the church and listened to their teacher explain in Arabic the Greek inscriptions on the walls, while a group of Russian pilgrims knelt on their knees and whispered in prayer. In Nazareth's old city, merchants sold the usual array of Christmas wares.
This year, however, the familiar rhythms of Christmas season in the Holy Land have been disturbed by a new development: the rise of an independent voice for Israel's Christian community, which is increasingly trying to assert its separate identity. For decades, Arab Christians were considered part of Israel's sizable Palestinian minority, which comprises both Muslims and Christians and makes up about a fifth of the country's citizens, according to the Israeli government.

But now, an informal grass-roots movement, prompted in part by the persecution of Christians elsewhere in the region since the Arab Spring, wants to cooperate more closely with Israeli Jewish society—which could mean a historic change in attitude toward the Jewish state. "Israel is my country, and I want to defend it," says Henry Zaher, an 18-year-old Christian from the village of Reineh who was visiting Nazareth. "The Jewish state is good for us."

The Christian share of Israel's population has decreased over the years—from 2.5% in 1950 to 1.6% today, according to Israel's Central Bureau of Statistics—because of migration and a low birthrate. Of Israel's 8 million citizens, about 130,000 are Arabic-speaking Christians (mostly Greek Catholic and Greek Orthodox), and 1.3 million are Arab Muslims.
In some ways, Christians in Israel more closely resemble their Jewish neighbors than their Muslim ones, says Amnon Ramon, a lecturer at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and a specialist on Christians in Israel at the Jerusalem Institute for Israel Studies. In a recent book, he reports that Israeli Christians' median age is 30, compared with 31 for Israeli Jews and only 19 for Israeli Muslims. Israeli Christian women marry later than Israeli Muslims, have significantly fewer children and participate more in the workforce. Unemployment is lower among Israeli Christians than among Muslims, and life expectancy is higher. Perhaps most strikingly, Israeli Christians actually surpass Israeli Jews in educational achievement.

As a minority within a minority, Christians in Israel have historically been in a bind. Fear of being considered traitors often drove them to proclaim their full support for the Palestinian cause. Muslim Israeli leaders say that all Palestinians are siblings and deny any Christian-Muslim rift. But in mixed Muslim-Christian cities such as Nazareth, many Christians say they feel outnumbered and insecure.
"There is a lot of fear among Christians from Muslim reprisals," says Dr. Ramon. "In the presence of a Muslim student in one of my classes, a Christian student will never say the same things he would say were the Muslim student not there."
"Many Christians think like me, but they keep silent," says the Rev. Gabriel Naddaf, who backs greater Christian integration into the Jewish state. "They are simply too afraid." In his home in Nazareth, overlooking the fertile hills of the Galilee, the 40-year-old former spokesman of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate in Jerusalem is tall and charismatic, dressed in a spotless black cassock. "Israel is my country," he says. "We enjoy the Israeli democracy and have to respect it and fight for it."

That is the idea behind the new Forum for Drafting the Christian Community, which aims to increase the number of Christians joining the Israel Defense Forces. It is an extremely delicate issue: Israeli Arabs are generally exempt from military duty, because the state doesn't expect them to fight their brethren among the Palestinians or in neighboring Arab countries. Israeli Palestinians, who usually don't want to enlist, say they often face discrimination in employment and other areas because they don't serve.
"We were dragged into a conflict that wasn't ours," says Father Naddaf. "Israel takes care of us, and if not Israel, who will defend us? We love this country, and we see the army as a first step in becoming more integrated with the state."
According to Shadi Khaloul, a forum spokesperson, the total number of Christians serving in the Israeli military has more than quadrupled since 2012, from 35 to nearly 150. This may seem a drop in the ocean, but it was enough to enrage many Palestinian Israelis. Father Naddaf says that his car's tires were punctured and that he received death threats, worrying him enough that he got bodyguards. Hanin Zoabi, an Arab-Muslim member of the Israeli parliament, wrote Father Naddaf a public letter calling him a collaborator and accusing him of putting young Christians "in danger." "Arab Palestinians, regardless of their religion, should not join the Israeli army," Ms. Zoabi told me. "We are a national group, not a religious one. Any attempt to enlist Christians is part of a strategy of divide-and-rule."

Many Arab Christians don't see it that way. "We are not mercenaries," says Mr. Khaloul, who served as a captain in an IDF paratrooper brigade. "We want to defend this country together with the Jews. We see what is happening these days to Christians around us—in Iraq, Syria and Egypt."
Since the Arab revolutions began in Tunisia in 2011, many Christians in the region have felt isolated and jittery. Coptic churches have been attacked in Egypt, and at least 26 Iraqis leaving a Catholic church in Baghdad on Christmas Day were killed by a car bomb. Islamists continue to threaten to enforce Shariah law wherever they gain control.
The Christian awakening in Israel goes beyond joining the IDF. Some Israeli Christian leaders now demand that their history and heritage be taught in state schools. "Children in Arab schools in Israel learn only Arab-Muslim history," says a report prepared by Mr. Khaloul and submitted to Israel's Ministry of Education, "and this causes the obliteration of Christian identity."

Some Israeli Christians even recently established a new political party, headed by Bishara Shlayan, a stocky, blue-eyed former captain in the Israeli navy who told me that he once beat up an Irish sailor in Londonderry who called him an "[expletive] Jew." The new party is puckishly called B'nai Brith ("Children of the Covenant"), and Shlayan says it will have Jewish as well as Christian members. Nazareth's mayor, Ramez Jaraisy, recently told the Times of Israel that Shlayan was a "collaborator" with the Israeli authorities.
"The current Arab political establishment only brought us hate and rifts," says Mr. Shlayan. "The Arab-Muslim parties didn't take care of us. We are not brothers with the Muslims; brothers take care of each other." Mr. Shlayan, who advocates better education, housing and employment for Israeli Christians, says he also dreams of turning Nazareth into an even busier tourist spot by erecting the world's biggest statue of Jesus.
Should this Christian awakening succeed, it would be yet another notable shift in the balance of power among religious groups in the Middle East.

Duck Commander Ignites A Revolution

by
Hi! I’m Wayne Allyn Root for Personal Liberty. Boy, do I have a merry Christmas story for you.
A duck hunter stared down the powerful forces of Hollywood — and Hollywood blinked! And the result is… It isn’t that gays are coming out of the closet. It’s that Christians and conservatives are coming out of the closet. A duck hunter may have fired the shot that ignited a new American Revolution.
Something amazing is happening: an awakening. More people showed support for the star of “Duck Dynasty” in 24 hours than signed up for Obamacare in its first three months — which means that at this point in time, Americans are starting to come to the conclusion we’d rather have a duck hunter in the White House than Barack Obama. We couldn’t do any worse. By the way, the duck hunter may be simple, but he never committed fraud to sell us his product.
By now, everyone knows about the whole controversy involving the reality TV show “Duck Dynasty” and its biggest star, Phil Robertson. Robertson made some controversial comments about homosexuality. That didn’t sit well with Hollywood.
A&E Networks suspended Robertson indefinitely, which is another way of saying: “You’re fired.” A&E thought it was a cut-and-dried case. They thought, “Who’d take the side of some uneducated, ignorant duck hunter?”
Perhaps someone should ask the executives of A&E what is feels like to step in duck poop? Because don’t look now; but that uneducated ignorant, duck hunter just took down an entire billion-dollar TV network. It’s no joke. A&E made the biggest mistake in the history of Hollywood. It showed middle America (the people who watch their TV shows) how the thought police tyrants in Hollywood (and D.C.) really think.

And America told Hollywood to “Go duck yourself!”
Here is what has me in a celebrating mood this Christmas. The tyrants and control freaks like Obama, Hollywood, the leftist thought police and the media elite are shaking in their boots. They have visions of peasants with pitchforks and gas cans at the gates of their offices and mansions.
I really do believe this was the moment in time when Christians and conservatives woke up from a long slumber. It took a simple duck hunter to inspire us. And what Middle America is saying to Obama and his socialist cabal is: “We have rights, too. We deserve free speech, too. We’ve had enough of your oppression and intolerance toward our values and beliefs. And we’re not going to take it anymore.”
A&E is backed into a corner, with no easy way out. Cracker Barrel has already backed down. That company took “Duck Dynasty” products off the shelves and got so many angry calls and emails that all the products are back on the shelf. Cracker Barrel actually had to issue an apology. In so many words, Cracker Barrel said: “We were flat-out wrong. Our customers have spoken.” Wow! You mean Christians and conservative consumers actually do have power! Amen to that.
It’s about time we woke up and realized we have rights, too. And we have power. It’s time to not turn the other cheek. It’s time to stare right in the face of our oppressors and do unto them as they do unto us.

A&E claims the “indefinite suspension” (i.e., firing) of Robertson is about “branding.” What it’s insinuating is it couldn’t possibly allow a close-minded, Neanderthal gay basher to remain as the face of its billion-dollar brand.
Well guess what? The new brand for A&E is “the Christian-hating, Bible-bashing, intolerant TV network.” And in a Nation still dominated by Christians who actually believe in God, guns and the Bible, that’s not a viable brand. In other words: Oh, how the tables have turned. A&E is “ducked.”
Let me explain my background. I’m a lifelong Republican conservative. My heroes are Ronald Reagan and Barry Goldwater. I’m a leading conservative commentator and bestselling conservative author of The Ultimate Obama Survival Guide. Yet I’ve always differed from my fellow conservatives on one issue: gay rights. Like my hero Goldwater, I have no problem with gays. Goldwater is the father of the modern-day conservative movement. Yet he, too, was pro-gay rights. In so many words, he once said of gays in the military, “I don’t care if they’re straight, I only care if they shoot straight.”
Ronald Reagan was also open-minded toward gays, as a result of a lifetime spent in Hollywood in the acting business. I’ve always been pro-gay rights. I believe what people do in their private bedrooms is none of government’s business.
But this isn’t a gay rights issue. The firing of Robertson, star of “Duck Dynasty,” is a free speech issue. It’s symbolic of the biased, one-sided way the media and leftist elites treat free speech. People have every right to express opinions considered “progressive” or “politically correct” nowadays. But the same rules don’t apply to salt-of-the-earth, apple-pie, middle-class Americans who believe in God, country, guns and, yes, the Bible.

You mean Christians and conservatives don’t they have the right to free speech just like Hollywood leftists? Just like Washington, D.C. socialists? You mean Christians or conservatives don’t have the right to express their views in the workplace, without fearing for their jobs? You mean if any of us quote the Bible at work, we can lose our jobs?
Robertson only expressed his personal opinions. Those opinions are shared by millions of Christians not only in America, but across the globe. Agree or disagree, he had every right to express that opinion without losing his job. I may disagree with the exact words he chose, but I stand hand-in-hand with Robertson to support his right to say it.
Oh, by the way, Robertson is a reality TV star. His success and popularity are based on his opinions. A&E fired a reality star for having controversial opinions? Are you kidding me? A&E execs need to visit a psychiatrist’s couch… pronto!
The “Duck Dynasty” scandal is about intolerance. But the intolerance is on part of Hollywood and A&E. The star of a reality show is allowed to have opinions. If you don’t like them, you have no right to ban them. That’s intolerance. That’s tyrant behavior. That’s McCarthyism. That’s the attitude of police states we find in countries run by tyrants like Josef Stalin, or Fidel Castro, or Huge Chavez, or the old East Germany. Is this what America has become under Obama?

I don’t have to agree with Robertson to stand behind him. I support free speech. If it can happen to Robertson, it can happen to anyone of us. I’m a TV and radio personality. I have opinions. I won’t change them — or back down. If you don’t like them, change the channel. That’s called freedom.
Defenders of A&E and Hollywood claim this is about “private property rights.” They say a private business (like A&E) has the right to fire anyone hurting its brand.
That would be true if this were a fair two-way street. I, too, support private property rights for business owners (like me) to run our businesses anyway we want. Only the CEO should decide who works for his company, not government.
But this is not the way the rules currently work in America. If any private business said “I won’t serve a customer because of his race or sexual orientation,” would that decision be allowed by government? Would Hollywood or the media elite take the business owner’s side? Of course not. So “private property rights” are extended only to people with the same views as Hollywood?
If a businessman, in his own private business, decided to fire any employee who supports gay marriage, would that decision be allowed? If a CEO fired employees because they were atheist, would that decision be allowed? If a CEO fired a woman because she was an outspoken supporter of abortion, would that decision stand?

How about if a CEO concerned about his brand said, “You’re fired because your outspoken support of gay rights is killing my business” — would that decision be allowed?
More specifically, how about a TV network firing the star of a reality TV show because he made remarks in an interview supporting abortion or gay marriage or stem-cell research. Would government, courts or Hollywood accept that decision? Leftists and gay rights organizations would beg government to intervene. And we’d see $100 million class action lawsuits galore.
So it’s a lie to say that private businesses have a right to fire who they want. The law is used only to protect leftist and “progressive” views. This was never about “branding.” It was about the shock and horror when people who drink Obama-Kool-Aid realized that their biggest TV star actually believes in Christian and conservative values. And he’s popular. Gasp! This could be trouble. This kind of thinking could spread. They had to move quickly to silence him.
Why? Because Obama and his socialist cabal are petrified of free thought. They keep their modern-day Tammany Hall going through intimidation and the demonization of opposing viewpoints. They use Saul Alinsky tactics: destroying the reputation of your opponent and making a mockery of him and his views. They want to set an example. Once you see the star of “Duck Dynasty” lose his job and be vilified in the media for merely giving his opinion and quoting the Bible, you’ll never try it yourself. You’ll be put in your place, too frightened to talk out loud about your views ever again.

Leftists, socialists, communists and intellectual elitists cannot afford to allow conservative or Christian values to be affirmed by a pop culture celebrity — for fear it might start a trend. It might stir up the masses. It might encourage conservatives to speak out. It might embolden Christians to quote the Bible without fear. Hollywood cannot allow that. Because they know it could get out of hand. Americans might actually be inspired to fight back. Some of us might escape the thought-police plantation.
Well, I’ve got news for you: It’s too late. The spark is lit. You just woke a sleeping giant.
A duck hunter may have just ignited a revolution. Robertson just went from TV phenomenon to American hero. Salt-of-the-earth Middle America has been now unchained. The gloves are off. We are free to speak our minds. And the truth shall set us free. Here’s what we have to say to control-freak tyrants like Obama the Hollywood elite thought police: “Duck you!”
And now that we’re free to speak our minds…
Let’s start by throwing out that politically correct pablum “Happy Holidays.” It’s time to stop cowering in fear. It’s time to say publicly and loudly “Merry Christmas.” It’s not a generic holiday. It’s a religious holiday. It’s called Christmas because it celebrates the birth of Christ. Can you imagine that?
Open your window and scream it out loud: “Merry Christmas to all. And to anyone who doesn’t like it, we don’t give a duck what you think.”
The revolution has begun. And capitalism still works, too. A&E just made Robertson a billionaire. I’m Wayne Allyn Root for Personal Liberty. God bless America. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.

Hope In The Holiday Season

Hope In The Holiday Season
by
Untold millions (billions?) of people across the world are waking up to official lies, cover stories and conspiracies.
These people are crossing the bridge, so to speak, to see what’s on the other side.
The question is, do they stay there once they’ve crossed over, or do they try to retreat back to their former positions as ordinary citizens with dimmed perception?
It’s quite a trick to a) maintain the status of “normal person” while b) seeing through the enormous ruse.
In fact, in the long run, it’s impossible.
Therefore, the retreat backward involves self-induced mind control. In other words, the enlightened person un-enlightens himself. He re-educates himself to accept all the lies he saw through.
He “rejoins the church” he once quit. And he does so with a fervor.

Not long ago, I spoke with a college professor who detailed that journey: “About 10 years into my career as a teacher, I became aware that I was educating my students into a whole series of official stories that were egregiously false. So I began to expose the lies in my classroom.
“This led to a clash with officials at my school. I realized my neck was on the line. I had to make a choice.
“I decided to survive. I went back to accepting what I knew was false. The process by which I did this was… you could call it self-administered brainwashing.
“I’m certainly not proud of it. But that’s what I did.”
The teacher went on to tell me he knew a number of other professors at various colleges who’d done the same thing. They weren’t proud of it, either, but they’d made their bed.
In our society, our culture, the pendulum is swinging back and forth. People are discovering truth, and then they are denying its implications.
In some cases, these people work for companies they know are part of the problem. Others work for government agencies. Others are in the military or the police. They’re caught in the middle.
This is one reason why we live in a surveillance state, one reason why psychiatrists have become far more important authority figures, one reason why dependence on government is being pushed as never before.

The intention is to drive people back into their lives as obedient citizens, as opposed to free people who are seeing more and more of the truth.
Television, of course, plays a central role in this effort. Aside from what is laughingly called the news, the endless proliferation of crime dramas and sports coverage fulfills the desire for well-defined outcomes.
Good triumphs over evil. The good guys arrest the bad guys. One team wins, the other team loses. It’s clear-cut. Simple. With relatively few exceptions, things resolve the way they’re supposed to.
If the fictional hero is “fighting against the establishment,” it’s revealed he’s really battling “a rogue element.”
So the television audience can rest easy. It’s all OK. The authorities are on the side of the angels.
People caught in the middle tend to see retreat as their best option. They first looked for some stable platform on which they could stand, in order to send the old order to its demise; but not finding it, they opted for safety.
However, the itch and discomfort and the moral crisis don’t dissolve. They remain.

It is in this tension that new ideas and new solutions are born.
We are brought up to believe that if something is wrong, there is a prescribed solution; if not, nothing was really wrong.
This is the big lie. This is a prominent piece of mind control. It’s successful because official bodies are full of prescribed solutions. They appoint themselves princes of solutions. They breathe and excrete solutions every day.
Promoting and bringing about a wider gulf between the rich and the poor is another official strategy designed to force people to fall in line. Those on the edge of sinking into poverty are less likely to step out and defend conspiracy researchers and citizen reporters.
So it’s all the more unusual and forceful that we are seeing this relentless building wave of anti-establishment research. It means that people all over the world are fed up with the status quo and the official scenarios put in place to protect it.
There was a time, 30 years ago, when the best way I could get information out was to give lectures, have them taped on audio cassette, and send the tapes to friends and allies.
Fortunately, that time has passed. Now, thousands and thousands of researchers are being read, seen and heard online.
On some days, it doesn’t seem like we’re winning. But we are.
Keep it up. Find ways to cross that bridge from official stories to the truth and stay there. No one said it would be easy. It’s always tempting to sink back into a trance.
But we do have an inherent desire to see things through. It’s strong. It’s compelling. It’s real.

Some years ago, a painter friend sent me the following note. Its implications are universal:
"I used to be a house divided. I knew the work I wanted to do wouldn’t become popular in the marketplace. I was torn in half. I knew how to please the powers-that-be. But then it occurred to me: what would happen if I catered to the dominant culture and still failed to prosper? That would be the ultimate irony. If I went my own way, to the hilt, and did the work I wanted to do, I would have freedom, and the joy of looking at what I had produced. I wouldn’t go to sleep every night wondering what the hell I was doing. I would know."
That spirit is very hard to kill. In the long run, it’s impossible to destroy it.
It keeps resurfacing, like a dream that is more real than waking life.

The Counter-Revolution Begins

Duck-Commander
by

As 2013 comes to a close, two important developments have the potential to turn the tide against Obama’s “fundamental transformation” of the United States.
First is the public rejection of the so-called “Affordable Care Act” due to its cancellation of health care plans for millions of Americans. Second is the public backlash against the suspension of a character in the “Duck Dynasty” television show, over his critical comments about gay rights.
These two seemingly unrelated developments were dramatic indications that the American people are beginning to understand that their country is being transformed in ways that run directly contrary to their best interests and values.

In the House, 39 Democrats voted for Republican Rep. Fred Upton’s “Keep Your Health Plan Act.” The measure would allow Americans to keep their current health-care plans, even if they don’t meet the standards or requirements established by the so-called Affordable Care Act (ACA).
The uproar over the suspension of the “Duck Dynasty” star, Phil Robertson, was reminiscent of Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day, when hundreds of thousands of people turned out to protest the homosexual rights movement’s targeting of the chain. The company’s president, Dan Cathy, had outraged the gay lobby by stating his support for traditional marriage.
It is clear that millions of Americans are looking for bold leadership to really “take their country back” from Obama and his “progressive” backers, who are pushing socialized medicine, homosexual rights, and other radical measures, such as amnesty for illegal aliens.
What is lacking at this point is an adequate public understanding of what the Obama administration is doing to the country in the area of foreign policy.

Consider what passes for an intellectual discussion on a recent edition of CNN’s “Crossfire” show. Liberal columnist Ruth Marcus described as “brilliant” Obama’s decision to send homosexual athletes to the Winter Olympics being held in Sochi, Russia in February, to protest anti-gay propaganda laws in Russia. Co-host S.E. Cupp agreed the decision was brilliant. “Me, too,” she said. She also made it clear that “I support same sex marriage. I’m a gay rights advocate from the right. And clearly the President is delivering a strong message to Russia in this.”
The “liberal” co-host, Van Jones, said, “And I’m super excited about it as well, and I think it is interesting that you can now have a President of the United States slap down [Russian President Vladimir] Putin on the issue of gay rights. That wouldn’t have been possible 10 years ago and now it is. It seems to me Republicans are nowhere to be seen on this fight.”
Conservative commentator William Kristol was a guest on the show and countered, “…wow, that was really bold. He is really showing Putin who is boss. I’m sure Putin is sitting there thinking, boy, I’ve just been humiliated by the President. And he sends a couple of gay athletes over [to] the Olympics. That’s going to cause me big problems. Meanwhile, we’re capitulating to him on everything important.” He added that Obama’s “reset” with Russia “has been a total failure.”
Unfortunately, time ran out before Kristol could explain how dramatically the reset has boomeranged.

We are seeing Obama’s capitulation to the Russians unfold in the Ukraine, where the government, under pressure from Russia, has cut a deal with Putin involving natural gas purchases and financial credits. Democratic Senator Chris Murphy (CT), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on European Affairs, recently spoke to a crowd of hundreds of thousands of protesters in Kiev, some of whom had toppled a statue of Lenin in Bessarabska Square and used hammers to attack it.
Murphy said, “Ukrainians are protesting in the streets today because they know they’re being sold out by their government for short-term monetary gain from Russia, and they rightly fear the long-term economic cost to Ukraine’s economy.”
The New York Post commented that “…there are moments when the world needs to hear from the president of the United States. This is one of them. And what was his signal? As Ukrainian police cracked down [on protesters], Obama was shaking hands with Cuban President Raul Castro.”
That handshake, of course, took place during the memorial service in honor of South Africa’s Nelson Mandela, exposed after his death as a member of the central committee of the South African Communist Party.
Very few people, even on the right side of the political spectrum, wanted to hear the truth about Mandela’s involvement in the international communist movement, or about the current South African government’s strategic relationship with Russia, giving the Putin regime special access to strategic minerals.

Even Republican conservative Senator Ted Cruz (TX) praised Mandela after his death and attended his memorial service (although he says he walked out on Raul Castro’s speech).
Interestingly, Cruz has said that his father, who came from Cuba and is now an outspoken anti-communist, was allied with Castro’s forces who successfully overthrew the Cuban government because “they didn’t know Castro was a Communist.”
Cruz apparently didn’t know or suspect Mandela was a communist (although the evidence existed even before his death). He should have had a long talk with his father before he made the trip to South Africa to honor Mandela. Hopefully, his father would have set him straight.
Only through a real understanding of communism, which President Ronald Reagan acquired through personal experience in Hollywood by fighting communist-dominated unions, can the Republicans truly understand and counteract the Obama phenomenon and his “fundamental transformation” of the nation that is now underway.
In the area of foreign policy, like the case of the ACA, it appears that even some Democrats are coming around. Whether this is because they are hearing from constituents or recognizing a policy disaster in the making, is not important. What is critical is that top Democrats are abandoning their leader.
In fact, Democratic Senator Robert Menendez (NJ) just introduced the Nuclear Weapon Free Iran Act, in order to expand sanctions on Iran. The Washington Post noted that the bill “highlighted deep divisions among Senate Democrats on whether to heap new pressures on Tehran’s government…” Menendez is chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee.

Both Democrats and Republicans are apprehensive about Obama joining with Putin’s Russia, the major international sponsor of the Iranian regime, and other nations, to make a deal with Iran to avoid further sanctions. Some may even be aware of the evidence that Iranian “Supreme Leader” Khamenei is a Russian agent trained by the KGB whose ultimate goal is to get United Nations help in disarming Israel.
As AIM has reported, Obama accepted a form of disinformation—the claim that Khamenei had issued a fatwa against nuclear weapons—in order to lay the groundwork for this proposed deal with that regime. An examination of the facts showed that the alleged fatwa simply doesn’t exist.
Former CIA officer Clare Lopez commented, “The Iranians have used classic clandestine tradecraft that their services learned directly from the KGB,” and refers to Moscow’s Patrice Lumumba University, attended by Khamenei, as “KGB Tech.” She added, “Such tradecraft includes denial and deception to lead us all astray on their WMD programs.”
This is why, as William Kristol suggests, Putin is probably snickering at the news that Obama has sent some gays to Moscow as a form of foreign policy protest. Laughter should quickly turn to sober reflection on the direction of U.S. foreign policy under Obama if our nation and our allies are going to survive. Let’s hope that “Crossfire” and other media start to get serious about these issues before they lose even more of their audience by focusing on the trivial and the absurd.

Katy Perry, the 29-year-old singer and songwriter, is revealing that while she prays she no longer identifies with Christianity.
"I don't believe in a heaven or a hell, or an old man sitting on a throne. I believe in a higher power bigger than me because that keeps me accountable," she told Marie Claire magazine recently. "Accountability is rare to find, especially with people like myself, because nobody wants to tell you something you don't want to hear."
Perry, who took the Billboard charts by storm with her hit song "I Kissed a Girl" in 2008, told Marie Claire that she no longer considers herself a Christian despite being raised by Christian ministers.

"I'm not Buddhist, I'm not Hindu, I'm not Christian, but I still feel like I have a deep connection with God. I pray all the time - for self-control, for humility," she told Marie Claire. "There's a lot of gratitude in it. Just saying 'thank you' sometimes is better than asking for things."
Despite her decision to perform music that may seem controversial to the Christian community, the chart-topping singer has never shied away from crediting the Christian church for giving her a start as a performer.
"The atmosphere I grew up in was 100 percent Christian," Perry said her "Part of Me: 3D" movie which was released last year. "I started singing in the church, I never really had another plan."

Keith Hudson, the singer's father who runs Keith and Mary Hudson Ministries with Katy's mother, admitted that he was worried when the news of their daughter's musical direction broke.
"I was a little concerned, yeah, 'cause I thought my ministry after 30-something years is over," Hudson said in the movie. "But, you know what? Never had a problem."
Still, Perry insisted that she has a great relationship with her parents.
"People don't understand that I have a great relationship with my parents … like, how that can exist. There isn't any judgment," Perry told Marie Claire. "They don't necessarily agree with everything I do, but I don't necessarily agree with everything they do. They pray for me is what they do."

Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson Supporters Order Thousands of Rubber Ducks to Send to A&E to Protest Suspension

phil robertson
By Jeff Schapiro
Supporters of Phil Robertson, the "Duck Dynasty" star who was suspended by A&E because of his recently published comments about homosexuality, are ordering rubber ducks to be sent to the network in protest of Robertson's suspension.
Janet Porter, president and founder of Faith2Action, told The Christian Post on Thursday that "thousands" of ducks have been ordered since the organization began offering them through MailTheDuck.com on Monday, though she was unsure of the exact number. Vision America, an organization that is partnering with Faith2Action for the campaign, said in a press release that more than 2,000 ducks were ordered in just 48 hours.

Porter says it is "insane" to launch a campaign the week of Christmas, but even on Christmas Day people were ordering ducks and sending postcards to A&E through the website.
"I can't believe it," said Porter. "But people feel strongly about this, and this is a tangible way they can stand for freedom."
The name, city and state of each person who orders a rubber duck will be attached to the duck along with the message: "We cry fowl-Reinstate Phil!" The ducks will be sent to Nancy Dubuc, president and CEO of A&E Networks, and Porter says the first load will be sent sometime this week.
Petitions might be easy for the network to ignore, Porter says, but "you cannot help but notice thousands and thousands of ducks coming into the door."

Protestors can pay several dollars to send a rubber duck through MailTheDuck.com, or they can send Dubuc a postcard at no cost. The cards, which say, "You can't camouflage anti-Christian bigotry" and promise a boycott of A&E and its advertisers until the network apologizes and reinstates Robertson, will also help catch the network's attention.
"The homosexual agenda has been running over people since Anita Bryant in the '70's," said Porter in a statement. "They have steamrolled over the rights of florists, photographers, and bakers. Now Phil Robertson is standing in front of the tank in Tiananmen Square – the only difference is: America is standing with him."
Robertson was suspended indefinitely by A&E last week after an interview was published by GQ magazine in which he called homosexuality a sin. Since that time, hundreds of thousands of people have signed petitions opposing the network's decision and more than 1.8 million people have "liked" a Facebook page that encourages people to boycott A&E until Robertson's suspension is lifted.

The Robertsons have also defended the family patriarch, saying his words to GQ were "coarse" but his beliefs are rooted in the Bible.
"Phil would never incite or encourage hate," the family's statement reads, in part. "We are disappointed that Phil has been placed on hiatus for expressing his faith, which is his constitutionally protected right."
Rick Scarborough, president and founder of Vision America, is among those who have praised Robertson for sharing his beliefs.
"In an age when many who profess biblical values are ducking their responsibility and diving for cover, it's heartening to see a superstar like Phil Robertson who's unafraid to defend Judeo-Christian morality," said Scarborough in a statement. "And it's equally encouraging to see tens of thousands of concerned citizens who are willing to back him up."
In addition to Vision America and Faith2Action, the campaign to see Robertson reinstated is also being sponsored by The Oak Initiative and Liberty Counsel.

Rural Oregon Residents Organize Community Patrols To Offset Lapsed Sheriff’s Coverage

Rural Oregon Residents Organize Community Patrols To Offset Lapsed Sheriff’s Coverage
by
Regular readers of Personal Liberty Digest™ may recall a May story that described what can happen when people are confronted by the reality that the police provide neither blanket preventive protection, nor an instant recourse, against crime. Crime is unpredictable by nature, typically affecting people when criminals know their targets are at their most vulnerable. And that’s a fact no amount of police coverage will ever change.
When a woman in rural Josephine County, Ore., called 911 to send a deputy to help fend off an ex-boyfriend who ultimately entered her home and attacked her, the dispatcher told her: “Uh, I don’t have anybody to send out there.” The attacker didn’t kill the woman, but he did hurt her. The cops later caught up with him and arrested him for kidnapping, sex abuse and assault.

That attack came at a time when the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office had laid off 23 deputies, closed its Major Crimes Unit and slashed its in-service patrolling hours to eight-hour weekdays. Budget cuts from the termination of Federal timber subsidies, which had long helped fund the sheriff’s office, had forced the sheriff’s office to make the cuts. Residents had already voted down an additional ad valorem tax, leaving the county with no other option.
In the wake of that decimation, former law enforcement officials in the area decided to come up with a stopgap solution. It’s not one that will prevent imminent crimes from occurring, but it could sanction the popular acceptance of a do-it-yourself ethic — one that encourages people to view personal protection as an individual responsibility, and not the sole task of cash-strapped, far-flung rural sheriff’s offices.
From a FOX News report Thursday:
"Ken Selig — who was the longest-serving law enforcement officer in all three local agencies when he was forced to retire from the department due to cuts — told FoxNews.com he found the sheriff’s declaration unacceptable. And he felt compelled to guard his community’s vulnerable members.
“Who else is going to protect you when your government can’t?” Selig said."

Over the objections of county officials, who viewed the ad valorem increase as the only viable solution, Selig and a friend created the North Valley Community Watch, a grass-roots crime-fighting organization that covers all of Josephine County and recruits residents to participate in monthly training sessions that focus on personal safety. The group has about 100 members, as well as a smaller, 12-member response unit that will respond at the scene of any non-life-threatening situation. (The group is still leaving life-threatening response scenarios to the sheriff’s office in order to avoid the wrath of the sheriff’s office, but the response team does carry firearms.)
Selig doesn’t claim that the watch group — one of several similar groups that have emerged to address the lapse in law enforcement coverage — is a cure-all, or that it can miraculously stop crime before it starts. But he does believe that citizen involvement makes a big difference in changing the culture of dependency on the state for personal protection — a culture in which criminals thrive.
“We believe responsible citizens doing responsible things make it hard for criminals to do irresponsible things,” he told FOX News.

Debtors’ Prisons Make A Comeback In America

Debtors’ Prisons Make A Comeback In America
by
Cash-strapped municipalities throughout the Nation are wrongheadedly throwing residents into jail for failing to pay court-ordered fines, even when the taxpayer cost of jailing the debtors is higher than letting the fine slide.
Critics of the practice of jailing people who fail to pay fines stemming from non-jailable offenses like vehicle equipment citations and other court costs, contend that jailing residents who owe fines is illegal and essentially sets up a localized debtors’ prison.
“It’s a waste of taxpayer resources, and it undermines the integrity of the justice system,” Carl Takei, staff attorney for the ACLU’s National Prison Project, told FOX News.
“The problem is it’s not actually much of a money-making proposition… to throw people in jail for fines and fees when they can’t afford it. If counties weren’t spending the money jailing people for not paying debts, they could be spending the money in other ways.”

The Colorado chapter of the ACLU recently accused three Front Range cities of jailing people for failing to pay court-ordered fines that they could not afford. According to the organization, municipal courts in Westminster, Wheat Ridge and Northglenn, routinely issue “pay-or-serve” warrants without consideration for a debtor’s ability to pay.
“These ‘pay-or-serve’ warrants return Colorado to the days of debtors’ prisons, which were abolished long ago,” said Mark Silverstein, ACLU legal director. “Jailing poor people for fines they cannot pay violates the Constitution and punishes poor people just for being poor. It also wastes taxpayer resources, crowds the jails, and doesn’t get the fines paid.”
In reporting on the Colorado towns, ACLU noted that the Jefferson County Jail imprisoned at least 154 people on pay-or-serve warrants between February and June 2013. The organization deducts that 973 days were served at a cost to taxpayers of more than $70 per day, for a total cost of more than $70,000.
“These 973 fine days cancelled out $40,000 of fines, making the total loss to the taxpayer $110,000,” the ACLU reports.
Similar situations are occurring all over the Nation.
An Ohio man ended up sitting in jail for 10 days last year because he couldn’t pay the balance on an outstanding $900 in costs owed to the municipal court of the Town of Norwalk. The court converted the fine he couldn’t pay into jail time, despite a 1971 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that found that very practice unConstitutional.

Harpersville, Ala., officials got into hot water last year, following a lawsuit stemming from a traffic-ticketing scheme involving police, city officials and a private probation company. One judge in the State called the arrangement a “judicially sanctioned extortion racket.”
If people ticketed for speeding there were not immediately able to fines imposed by Hapersville’s  municipal court, they were referred to the private company, which instantly began tacking on additional fees that multiplied the cost of the original offense — all under the sanction of criminal law. Many people were eventually jailed on bogus failure to appear charges, and every interaction with the town’s legal system cost them more money.
Shelby County Circuit Judge Hub Harrington said in a ruling against the city: “When viewed in a light most favorable to Defendants, their testimony concerning the City’s court system could reasonably be characterized as the operation of a debtors prison. The court notes that these generally fell into disfavor by the early 1800′s, though the practice appears to have remained common place in Harpersville. From a fair reading of the defendants’ testimony one might ascertain that a more apt description of the Harpersville Municipal Court practices is that of a judicially sanctioned extortion racket. Most distressing is that these abuses have been perpetrated by what is supposed to be a court of law. Disgraceful.”

Barack Obama’s Lie of the Year

Barack Obama’s Lie of the Year
by
Is the tide finally turning against the left in this country? Two important issues suggest that it may be. We’re a long way from being able to proclaim victory. But we’re winning some important battles. Let’s look at the evidence.
Let’s begin with the most vilified piece of legislation in recent years: Obamacare. The latest polls say that 62 percent of the public are now opposed to the measure, while just 35 percent favor it. That’s one heck of a black eye for President Barack Obama’s major legislative accomplishment.
It’s by now common knowledge that Obama was knowingly and deliberately lying through his teeth when he repeatedly promised, “If you like your health care plan, you can keep it.” In fact, PolitiFact, the Pulitzer-Prize winning feature of the Tampa Bay Tribune, named this Obama whopper as its “Lie of the Year.” After the newspaper announced its selection, readers in a separate online poll overwhelmingly agreed with the selection.

For a while, the President tried to deny that he said what he clearly and repeatedly promised. Here’s how he tried to rewrite his own history, in remarks to political supporters last month:
“Now, if you have or had one of these plans before the Affordable Care Act came into law, and you really liked that plan, what we said was you can keep it if it hasn’t changed since the law passed.”
PolitiFact promptly labeled this as a “pants on fire” falsehood. And it noted that it had counted 37 different times before that, when the President had included no such caveats in his promise.
Even many Obama supporters cried foul over this obvious effort to deceive. Chicago Tribune columnist Clarence Page declared that the public “was entitled to hear the unvarnished truth, not spin, from their President about what they were about to face. I don’t feel good about calling out Obama’s whopper, because I support most of his policies and programs. But in this instance, he would have to be delusional to think he was telling the truth.”
No, Mr. Page, our President wasn’t delusional; he was desperate.
Obamacare supporters claim that the measure’s website is now largely fixed. Therefore, they hope, the problems are largely behind them.
Not a chance. Nearly 10 times more people have lost their insurance than have been able to sign up for a new policy. Millions more will be told in the coming year that their old policies are being canceled.

Many of those who do apply through Obamacare are finding that their premiums will be significantly higher — in many cases, more than twice as much as they had been paying — while their deductibles (that is, the amount they must pay out of their own pockets) have gone through the roof.
More and more Americans are realizing that this massive government takeover of our medical system is a disaster. Fixing the website won’t change the fact that the program is fatally flawed.
This one issue could be enough to decide several Senate seats this fall. Let’s make sure it is.

The ‘Duck Dynasty’ Controversy

Another sign that the sleeping giant called the Silent Majority is coming awake is the amazing response of Christians and conservatives to the attacks on “Duck Dynasty” patriarch Phil Robertson for expressing his honest convictions about homosexuals.
GLAAD, the militant gay-rights group that launched the attack against Robertson, says it has received more criticism for its actions in this case than for any other positions it has taken. Even many gays have spoken out against the group’s efforts to suppress free speech.
One of the quickest about-faces came from Cracker Barrel. At first, the country restaurant chain said it was removing all merchandise from its gift shops that carried Robertson’s photograph. The company quickly did a complete turnaround and issued the following statement:
"When we made the decision to remove and evaluate certain Duck Dynasty items, we offended many of our loyal customers. Our intent was to avoid offending, but that’s just what we’ve done.
You told us we made a mistake. And, you weren’t shy about it. You wrote, you called and you took to social media to express your thoughts and feelings.  You flat out told us we were wrong.
We listened.
Today, we are putting all our Duck Dynasty products back in our stores.
And, we apologize for offending you."

Good for Cracker Barrel! The response reminds me of what happened last year, when the gay rights movement attacked Chick-fil-A founder Truett Cathy for his remarks defending traditional marriage. Instead of hurting the restaurant chain’s business, supporters turned out in droves, leading to some of the busiest days in the company’s history.
The same thing is happening again, this time with “Duck Dynasty” merchandise selling in droves. After the furor broke over A&E’s actions, there was a rush to purchase all sorts of “Duck Dynasty” items from Wal-Mart’s website. The group’s T-shirt was already Wal-Mart’s best-selling item of apparel for men and women. But now the shelves have been stripped of just about everything carrying the “Duck Dynasty” name.
And we’re talking about a ton of stuff. Wal-Mart’s annual sales of “Duck Dynasty” merchandise is said to come to some $200 million a year. According to Forbes magazine, the show’s merchandise empire is worth an estimated $400 million, so Wal-Mart sales come to about half of that amount. As you can see, the family business is a lot more than duck calls.
But let’s get back to the reaction to the attacks against Robertson. Conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh says there is something special going on here. He told his vast radio audience, “I think a lot of people are sick and tired of being pushed around by a very small minority of leftists who use weapons, like political correctness and censorship, intimidation, and everything else, in order to shut up the people who say things they don’t want to hear or disagree with.”

Limbaugh pointed out that Robertson is “the only one that’s really been discriminated against here.” He lost his gig on the family’s TV show. “[A]t some point,” Limbaugh added, “enough people are gonna say, ‘Okay, enough of this,’ and they’re gonna stand up and say, ‘Just shut up.’”
There’s no doubt Rush is right. A&E made a huge mistake by kowtowing to the radical gay rights movement. The reaction of Robertson’s defenders has shocked and alarmed the mainstream media. They’ve always been worried about what would happen if the Silent Majority weren’t silent any more. Let’s hope they’re about to find out.
In this holy season, as we celebrate the good news of Christ’s birth, I hope you’re encouraged by these more earthly glad tidings. Let’s begin the New Year rested, refreshed, and even more resolved to do battle with the enemies of liberty.
Happy New Year! And until next time, keep some powder dry.

Kellie Pickler Does Duet With Fans In Afghanistan Christmas Day

Kellie Pickler Does Duet With Fans In Afghanistan
oped: Aww what a sweetie...at least Kellie has her priorities right...she gives back without twerking as pop stars do![Miley....whats her name again?]

By ·
Donning camouflage leggings and sparkling boots, country music singer Kellie Pickler took to the stage in Afghanistan on Christmas day to sing to U.S. troops.
The 27 year old “American Idol” finalist and winner of “Dancing With the Stars” is among America’s favorite current country singers. As troops spend their thirteenth Christmas in Afghanistan, Pickler visited them for the holidays to show her appreciation. While there, she shook hands, handed out gifts, took pictures, and even got a few of the fans involved in the singing while she performed for them:

But blonde bombshells and virgin eggnog in the midst of war aren’t all that struck U.S. soldiers as surreal during their stay. The bases of which the troops are in charge are slowly disintegrating; the U.S. is planning to withdraw them imminently and the chances of spending another Christmas there are reduced – especially if an agreement is signed with the Afghan government. Meanwhile, those who arrived ready for war, found themselves in a far different scenario than anticipated.
While waiting in line for Kellie Pickler on Christmas Eve, Spec. Jeremy Kortuem shared with the Washington Post, “We came here for the war, but we arrived just in time for it to be over.”
Spec. James Pegram also was surprised to arrive in the middle of more commercialization and less combat. “I was expecting more bang-bang and less TGI Fridays,” he admitted, referencing the surrounding fast food establishments, athletic arenas, and miscellaneous shops.
However, for the families of Americans who have lost their lives in the past ten days alone – like the six who perished in the Zabul providence helicopter crash, and for those involved in the U.S. embassy that was hit by rockets on Christmas morning – this deployment likely seems a bit less anticlimactic.
In the midst of such extremes, a country singer did what she could. She arrived to offer American troops a temporary escape from the painful reality of war, and they certainly were grateful. Perhaps not everyone present knew Kellie Picker’s name prior to her scheduled arrival, but they definitely do now.
