Noncompliance Is An Effective Strategy

Noncompliance Is An Effective Strategy
by
It’s not just Connecticut gun owners who are refusing to comply with unConstitutional laws requiring them to register their guns. New York residents are also refusing to comply.
In the days leading up to yesterday’s deadline to register so-called “assault weapons” as defined under the New York SAFE Act, reports were leaking that only 3,000 to 5,000 firearms had been registered. That’s far short of the approximately 1 million weapons affected by the law.
Failure to register is a misdemeanor under the law. But it appears that as many as 98 percent of New York gun owners have decided to risk charges rather than register their guns.

It’s important to note that few police departments have embraced the law. As New York Assemblyman Bill Nojay pointed out in January: “The rank and file troopers don’t want anything to do with it. I don’t know of a single sheriff upstate who is going to enforce it. If you don’t have the troopers and you don’t have the sheriffs, who have you got? You’ve got Andrew Cuomo pounding on the table in Albany.”
Americans have the ability to nullify unConstitutional laws through noncompliance and with the help of law enforcement who stand true to their oath to defend the Constitution. The Bundy ranch protest and both the Connecticut and New York gun registration protests show how resistance to unConstitional laws can rein in overbearing government.
But remember that neither the New York nor Connecticut gun grabs nor the Bundy cattle confiscation situations are over as long as statists like Mario Cuomo and Harry Reid are in power and they have enforcers willing to trample on the rights of their fellow citizens in the name of “just doing their job.” Some eggs may yet be broken.
