Before this weekend, press speculation had been running rampant about where Malia Obama might be attending college next fall.
After this weekend, more speculation will probably center on a) how long she’s grounded and b) whether she used a triangle or diamond re-rack.
The first daughter was visiting Brown University in Rhode Island last weekend. According to The Daily Caller, 17-year-old Malia stayed with a friend on campus and did all the things normal college kids do, including the things college kids shouldn’t do.
This is a shot The Daily Caller obtained from Malia Obama’s time at the Rhode Island Ivy League school.
For those of a later generation (or perhaps from more religious backgrounds), Malia appears to be playing beer pong, a game in which the object is to throw a ping-pong ball into a series of cups filled partially with beer. If you manage to do so, the other person has to drink the beer in the cup.
And that wasn’t all, according to Twitter:
I hope she didn’t walk into the cafeteria and belligerently demand jalapeño mac and cheese afterwards.
Okay, so she’s doing normal college kid things, you say to yourself. Unless you’re a teetotaler, you’ve probably had one of those nights where you’ve woken up with a headache and the tang of partially-digested Yuengling in the back of your mouth. What’s the big deal?
Well, ask yourself this question: have you seen this week-old picture yet?
Furthermore, I quote from you an article from USA Today, May 31, 2001: “President Bush’s 19-year-old twin daughters were charged Thursday with underage alcohol offenses after an incident in a popular restaurant known for its Tex-Mex food and ice-cold margaritas.
“It was the second alcohol-related citation against Jenna Bush in less than five weeks. Police accused Jenna Bush of attempting to buy alcohol with false identification and Barbara Bush of being a minor in possession of alcohol.”
Yes, in case you had forgotten, the press had a field day whenever the Bush twins got into the slightest bit of trouble with underage alcohol offenses.
Yet, when the president’s daughter is photographed playing beer pong at the age of 17, the media is conspicuously silent.
As they say, though, a picture can speak a thousand words, and silence can speak volumes. If you’d ever doubted that the press is in the tank for Obama, there’s your smoking gun.
