oped: That is so cool...however being that I live in Northern Nevada...where brothels are legal...hanging a red light may be construed as a red light district...I suppose I would have to hang a explanation under the light to avoid unwanted middle of the night knocks on the door...lol
According to WDAF, Monday was the deadliest day the Kansas City Fire Department has seen in 25 years. Two veteran firefighters, John Mesh and Larry Leggio, lost their lives after the second floor of a large apartment complex collapsed while they were fighting a blaze in the building.
Two other firefighters were hospitalized fighting the fire and two more were injured.
Kansas City, Missouri, residents have expressed their support for fallen firefighters in a way that has gained a lot of attention: by putting red bulbs in their porch lights.
Americans have found different ways to show their respect for the job police do. The red porch lights are one way to show similar respect for the sacrifices firefighters make.
Other ways Kansas City residents have shown their support for firefighters include caps with new logos, shirts, fundraisers and social media posts. It seems this community has become intent on finding all kinds of ways to show firefighters and their families how much it appreciates them.
“We want to show the families that they have a whole community behind them — that they’re not alone in this, and then also just to show everyone else that we appreciate what they do,” said Kelsey Jantsch, whose fiance is a firefighter.
Firefighting seemed to run in the families of the fallen men. Leggio’s father was a firefighter, as was Mesh’s brother.
Jantsch wants to spread the word about the lights so Mesh and Leggio won’t be forgotten.
This is an incredible but simple expression of appreciation for those who put their lives on the line daily in order to make the world a safer place.
