Psychological warfare is a vital component of any war. Breaking the will of the enemy and keeping your own troops motivated may help an unorganized enemy’s victory seem “inevitable,” however one must twist the truth in the process. This makes control of the media, with its ability to distract and redirect the nation’s attention, imperative. Luckily for Barack Obama, he has just this support in his war against traditional morality in the armed forces.
Amongst his litany of broken campaign promises, Obama kept his word to allow homosexuals to serve openly in the military. The media have proved today they have his back (so to speak). The Associated Press propagandizes today that more than half of the military, a million soldiers, have received the prescribed training – and things have never been better. AP “journalists” Pauline Jelinek and Lolita C. Baldor write, “so far there has been none of the turmoil or dire consequences predicted by opponents of what had been expected to be a wrenching change in military culture. There’s been no widespread resistance, no mad rush for the door by enlisted members opposed to the policy and no drop in recruiting.”
But later in their story they admit there is a rather compelling reason why conservative Christian recruits have not left the military: The Obama administration has forbidden them from doing so.
The Washington Post reported on that Sunday a Marine in the Helmand province of Afghanistan – one of the regions receiving the heaviest fire from enemies, foreign and domestic – told retiring Defense Secretary Robert Gates:
“Sir, we joined the Marine Corps because the Marine Corps has a set of standards and values that is better than that of the civilian sector,” a Marine asked Gates during a question and answer session. [sic. That is obviously not a question, dear professional journalist. – Ed.] “And we have gone and changed those values and repealed the ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy.”So, the Obama administration makes clear any resistance to the homosexual agenda will result in a dishonorable discharge – then the media cite the fact that no one has left yet as proof Obama was right all along.
“We have not given the Marines a chance to decide whether they wish to continue serving under that,” the Marine said, according to reporters present for the exchange. “Is there going to be an option for those Marines that no longer wish to serve due to the fact their moral values have not changed?”
“No,” Gates responded. “You’ll have to complete your…enlistment just like everybody else.” (Emphasis added.)
Such a ban was necessary for Obama to save any shred of his credibility. A Military Times poll taken in December 2008 found that 24 percent of enlisted servicemen would leave the military or consider leaving upon repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”; 10 percent said they would definitely resign. Recently retired Marine Corps. Commandant Gen. James Conway, the branch’s highest-ranking official, polled his troops and found “an overwhelming majority [of Marines] would like not to be roomed with a person that is openly homosexual.”
The AP grudgingly admits today:
The Pentagon said last year that a survey among troops found that two-thirds of the overall force predicted little impact on the military’s ability to fight if gays were allowed to serve openly.
But among those who did care, most were troops performing combat arms duties. Nearly 60 percent of those in the Marine Corps and in Army combat units said they thought repealing the law would hurt their units’ ability to fight on the battlefield.
That is, there most pervasive opposition to the policy happens to come from those with the greatest first-hand knowledge of waging war.
But then, effective fighting has nothing to do with Obama’s social tinkering. His policy is designed to break moral opposition to immorality, beginning with the new training material to which all U.S. servicemen are subjected. As this author noted, last month the AP reported the values-bending content of the new training materials:
There is nothing wrong with “hanging around” a gay bar, the training materials state…Gates defended the brainwashing, saying, “If we do this right, nothing will change.” Then again, if that is Gates’ goal, the easiest way to achieve it is not to change anything in the first place.
If a Marine spots two men in his battalion kissing off-duty at a shopping mall, he should react as if he were seeing a man and woman, according to the training materials. (Emphases added.)
The repeal will go into effect 60 days after Obama and his highest military brass say the policy will not harm the military’s fighting ability. (Anyone observing Obama’s relationship with Gen. Stanley McChrystal knows how important the opinion of the military is to him.)
The wording “ability to fight” is significant. The American armed forces are the best in the world; they could defeat virtually any other force with their hands tied behind their backs. (Indeed, they were forced to do exactly that in Vietnam.) That does not mean it will not have a cost.
According to NPR, Marine Corps Commandant Gen. James Amos said lifting the ban on open homosexuality in the military will cost lives.
“I don’t want to lose any Marines to the distraction,” he told reporters this week. “I don’t want to have any Marines that I’m visiting at Bethesda [Naval Medical Center] with no legs be the result of any type of distraction.”Obama has subordinated legless veterans to the boys wearing butt-less chaps.
By means of his, err, preference, Obama fulfills another Democratic precedent. In 1992, Bill Clinton campaigned for president by promising “a middle class tax cut.” Just months into his term, he reneged on the tax cut but delivered on “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” the camel’s nose in the tent toward open homosexuality in the armed forces. Sixteen years later, Barack Obama campaigned promising to hold unemployment below eight percent. Instead, Obama has presided over a worsening employment picture but chosen to pay off a highly motivated Democratic voting constituency. Democrats reward exotic niche groups over middle America, and punish the nation’s defenders to do so. The media attempt to convince the American people this is exactly as it should be.
And, as always, the enemy within the gates whose propaganda is most damaging.
American soldiers are heroes-in-waiting. They enlist in order to save others. They have no objections to following orders and, if need be, dying for their fellow Americans. However, the fact that Barack Obama is willing to entertain the possibility that more of them will die needlessly in order to sanction a lifestyle the world’s major religions consider sinful exposes him as unworthy of being their commander-in-chief.
