So, after a whole weekend spent listening to the Left and its media lapdogs express their rage that President Trump accused former President Obama of wiretapping his campaign before the election, I’ve come to a completely different conclusion than that of all the leftists who are stuck in “Trump is crazy” mode.
I think our much-maligned president may have just used the Left’s own lies and hubris to spring a trap that may end up devastating the Democratic Party, its operatives within the Executive Branch and the liberal mainstream media all at the same time.
And it all rests on a simple point of logic, which has always been liberals’ weakness.
For a couple of months now, we’ve been treated to an endless barrage of reports about “Russian influence” on the election, with little or no support other than anonymous allegations that intelligence agencies had “intercepted communications” between Russians and Trump-connected officials.
Intercepted — as in heard on a wiretap.
Now, Trump has accused the Obama Administration of doing exactly what the media has been implying it had done to uncover the “Russian connection” — ie, wiretapping.
That one simple assumption has been used by reporters to write hit pieces on President Trump and his Cabinet, and by Democratic politicians to call for lynch mobs under the guise of “investigations,” which so far at least have turned up no evidence connecting Trump or his people to any grand Russian conspiracy.
The notion that there was some sort of solid intelligence growing out of spying on — wiretapping — the Trump camp has been the primary source of hot air driving the liberal tornado directed daily at the president.
By firing off that tweet accusing Obama of duplicitous, Watergate-style wiretaps, Trump has just forced the Left to put up or shut up. And since we know they won’t shut up, that means they have to produce their evidence, because Trump has called for a congressional investigation of whether Obama abused his executive powers.
So now the Left is in a corner. Somebody’s gonna be in big trouble, and you can be sure it won’t be Trump. (If anyone thinks it will be, they would do well to recall how Hillary had the election “wrapped up” back in July, according to the media and her adoring sycophants.)
Here’s the conundrum, plain and clear.
If there is any real evidence of a “Russian connection” to Trump (there isn’t), then the Obama Administration was indeed engaged in the wiretapping of an American citizen, likely for partisan political purposes. Under this option, Obama has some serious ‘splaining to do. The media also get egg on their faces because they’ve been reporting information on the Russian conspiracy theory — and thus been aware of likely illegal wiretapping — for some months, even before the election.
The other possibility is that Obama-connected informants have been distributing false information to the complicit media, which have been lying through their teeth about their sources’ expertise or at the very least have completely abandoned all their journalistic training and allowed themselves to be used as propaganda whores. In that case, the Obama Administration (and Democrats and RINOs in Congress) are shown clearly as a pack of liars. Obama takes a hit, too, and still probably has to answer for his involvement, but he can slither completely out of responsibility if he steps carefully.
In short, it’s either a conspiracy by the Obama Administration to abuse executive power and target an American citizen, or it’s a conspiracy by the media and the Democratic Party to tear down the lawfully elected president of the United States.
Expect a race to see who can throw whom under the bus quickest.
