Ali Iyood, a biology graduate, was bitten by his pet King Cobra at his home in North Carolina
Iyood was described as being a 'responsible keeper' and 'extremely respected' in the reptile community

• Ali Iyood was bitten by the snake at his North Carolina home on Monday
• Tried to drive himself to the ER but phoned 911 as his condition worsened
• Described 'sweating like crazy' before being found by paramedics in his car
• Iyood, who kept more than 20 snakes as pets, is still in a critical condition

  Nearly unconscious, he pulled over at the side of the road on Highway 54, where paramedics found him and rushed him to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill on Monday night just after 9pm.
  He remains in a critical condition after he was injected with the potentially lethal venom. 
  
  
  Anti-venom for the bite was delivered by air from a zoo in Columbia, South Carolina at 1am on Tuesday, a friend said.  
  Iyood's friend Jennifer Marshburn claimed he was a 'responsible keeper' and 'extremely respected by others in the reptile community worldwide.'
  She added: 'He dedicates his life to these animals and is not just "some guy with a pet cobra'"
