Geraldo Rivera seems to be running low on talent these days. Not too long ago, he lost his job with WABC Radio.
Monday night, he had the distinct honor of being the first contestant eliminated from ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” after a miserable attempt at being clever and funny while dancing.
It was not a good combination and something that should be attempted only by professionals who know what they’re doing.
Rivera promised to “make dance great again” with a Donald Trump-inspired routine. He did no such thing.
The segment began with Rivera seated at a desk in the Oval Office wearing a Trump wig with an obvious spray tan. He pretended to take a call from Vladimir Putin when his partner, Edyta Sliwinska, came on stage in a full-length fur coat and proceeded to sit on his desk.
Rivera then discarded his suit for a Hawaiian shirt and he and Sliwinska performed a somewhat uninspired dance routine. In fact, Rivera hardly danced at all and looked as though he never found his rhythm throughout the entire segment.
After the performance, judge Carrie Ann Inaba told him, “Unfortunately, you did not make dance great again, but you did make me laugh.”
By the looks of this performance, he made more people cry.
Judge Len Goodman said, “There is a word in the dictionary that describes this. It’s ‘trumpery.’ No dance background, but you come out here and you give it your best shot. So, Geraldo, I salute you.”
That’s putting it nicely.

After being eliminated from the competition Geraldo said, “Everybody is so serious about it. We thought we’d have a laugh.”
Unfortunately, it was more pathetic than funny.
He later said on social media that he was disappointed by his performance — along with everyone else who had to suffer through it.

Hopefully, Rivera learned his lesson and will leave dancing and comedy to the professionals — and just go home.
