[Atlanta-Fire-Chief-Kelvin-Cochran...
loses his job due to his religious views ]
Dear Patriot:,
One of the mistakes many people make when looking at our movement from the outside is in thinking that it's only about preventing same-sex marriage. That's like looking at a dam and deciding that it's there because its builders don't like big rivers.
The truth is that the marriage issue is just one part of a much bigger and more fundamental mission--to defend faith and family from a society that has lost the sense of their importance and is allowing them to be marginalized and attacked.
Some people dismiss stories of those who are victimized for their faith. They don't want to believe that we're looking at the beginning of an insidious trend. They prefer to close their eyes and pretend that these are oddities, and that faith and family are not under constant attack by those who recognize that if they want to achieve their political agenda, they must silence people of faith.
The latest outrageous example comes from Atlanta. Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran, like so may who work in difficult and dangerous professions, finds comfort in his faith. Acting on his own as a private citizen, Chief Cochran wrote and self-published a book that discussed his own beliefs about spirituality, sexuality, and marriage.
Had those beliefs included an endorsement of same-sex marriage and homosexuality, Chief Cochran would still have his job. Unfortunately for him, the Chief had the temerity to express himself in keeping with the beliefs of his faith. The LGBT activists were incensed and demanded that the Chief be fired. And the Mayor of Atlanta complied.
Freedom for me, but not for thee
Yes, you read that correctly. Chief Cochran got fired for daring to express his religious beliefs.Nowhere does it allege that the performance of his job was in question.
No one seriously suggests that his beliefs would prevent him from serving the people of Atlanta.
All he did was publicly express religious beliefs that don't meet the approval of a powerful political group.
This is a crime against the free practice of religion and the principle of free speech. It also makes it clear, yet again, what the opposition is after. This isn't just about same-sex marriage for them either. They won't be satisfied until we are silenced. Completely and forever.
If you are interested in contacting Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed to express your thoughts on Chief Cochran's firing, you can find contact information for the Mayor's Office here, for his campaign website here. He also maintains a Twitter account.

Expressing our displeasure with the Mayor's actions is a start, but we need to do more. We're looking at a push to marginalize our beliefs and silence our movement. We need to push back.
Please pass the word and make it clear just what is at stake in this fight. CAAP is looking to expand our movement into every community in the country, and we need your help. In addition, your gift to CAAP will help us continue our work to create a new movement for faith, family, and justice. If we do not defend them, we will find ourselves in a culture that does not even recognize their value.
For faith and family,
Bill and Deborah Owens
