While radical Islam has had an unquestionable effect on the American way of life, our neighbors in Europe are seeing their way of life be usurped by extremists in the faith.
Muslim leaders in Western nations — including England — openly express largely the same views as those in Islamic territories. This trend was illustrated during a recent radio interview with Abdul Qadeer Baksh.
The Islamic official from Luton, England told the host that his idea of an “ideal society” would be one in which homosexuals are murdered. Apparently aware his candor would ruffle more than a few feathers, he backtracked to assert he is not advocating such policies in Britain.
“When I say ‘ideal society,’ I mean Islamic society, not a Western secular society like we live in here.”
He did not shy away from the outrageous claim that gays should be executed, however, noting that “every moderate Muslim holds this view as well. Every moderate holds these are the punishments in Islamic society.”
While such punishment is routinely carried out under Sharia law, Baksh said that such policies would only intrude into Western nations “by the people’s desire for it.”
Considering his contention that Britain could never be an “ideal society,” one wonders why this Islamic leader and others like him choose to live under a law they so obviously despise. Perhaps it is their effort to relocate sufficient fellow believers to trigger the “people’s desire” for Sharia law across the globe.
The liberal sensibilities of countries throughout Europe allow these individuals to spew their hate-filled rhetoric with abandon as Islam continues to be viewed as a protected class of people. Any criticism against the religion is viewed as unacceptable — even when their message is one of violence and terror.
At the same time, though, leftists offer a similar hedge of protection to the homosexual community. Trashing easy targets, including Christians who feel the lifestyle is sinful, progressives paint those who oppose homosexuality as bigots or worse.
When one favored group wishes the annihilation of another, though, they encounter a roadblock. The absence of a coordinated effort to curtail such threats indicates that the left’s vocal support of gay rights amounts to little more than lip service.
As with so many other positions, the issue is advantageous only insofar as it can be used as political fodder against conservatives.
