The President of Mexico, Felipe Calderon, took a shot at U.S. gun laws after James Holmes killed twelve people in Aurora, CO on Friday.
Calderon’s Twitter account offered his condolences to the families involved on Saturday via his Twitter account.
He has repeatedly called for Washington to tighten gun laws in light of the massive numbers of murders that have taken place in Mexico by drug cartels. According to Katie Pavlich at Townhall.com there have been 63,000 people that have been murdered in Mexico since 2006 simply because they are not allowed to purchase weapons to “defend themselves against ruthless drug cartels purchasing guns in bulk from China and Latin America.”

Not only that, but Pavlich also asserts in her book Fast and Furious: Obama’s Bloodiest Scandal And It’s Shameless Cover-Up, the Obama administration helped to end the year of 2010 with 15,273 murders attributed to Mexican cartels, which was the highest number on record and was at the time when the most guns crossed the border during the flawed gunwalking operation (pg. 56).

“Because of the Aurora, Colorado tragedy, the American Congress must review its mistaken legislation on guns. It’s doing damage to us all,” Calderon said.
Aurora already had very strict gun laws. In fact, their concealed carry ban was so strict it was in conflict with state law and rendered to be unenforceable. The cinema where the shooting took place didn’t allow weapons, even concealed carry permit holders were not allowed to have weapons inside and yet that did nothing to stop the man who committed the crime.

“I fully respect, I admire the American Constitution. And I understand that the purpose of the Second Amendment is to guarantee good American citizens the ability to defend themselves and their nation,” Calderon said. “Many of these guns are not going to honest American hands, instead, thousands are ending up in the hands of criminals.”
While claiming to respect, admire and understand the American Constitution and the Second Amendment, he wants Washington to enact more laws, thereby criminalizing those “honest American hands.” President Calderon was not only a big supporter of the reinstatement of the assault weapons ban, but is also supporting the current U.N. Arms Trade Treaty.
As I’ve pointed out more laws only aids criminals. It does nothing to protect the innocent.

Perhaps when President Calderon shows us a bit of performance in handling things properly in his own country with the amount of mass murders, decapitations and bringing the drug cartels of his own country under control, then he might have the wherewithal to speak on such matters. Until then, he can just keep his opinions to himself as he has absolutely nothing to offer by way of a solution to any of this.
I’ll give him the fact that U.S. gun laws are ‘mistaken,’but not in the sense he means them. They are mistaken for ever being put into law and thus infringing on the rights of American citizens.
