In a walloping rebuke to the forces pushing for acceptance of homosexual "marriage," a coalition of more than 34,000 predominantly black and Latino churches has severed ties with the Presbyterian Church USA.
After a June vote endorsing homosexual marriage, the PCUSA recently officially changed its church constitution's definition of marriage to "commitment between two people," rather than between a man and a woman.
That move made it the largest Protestant denomination to pretend that homosexual marriage is a Christian institution.
The National Black Church Initiative has rightly called the Presbyterians on their departure from the Bible.
The Rev. Anthony Evans, president of the NBCI, wrote that the "arbitrary change of Holy Scripture is a flagrantly pretentious and illegitimate maneuver by a body that has no authority whatsoever to alter holy text."
NBCI includes 15 Christian denominations and over 15.7 million black and Latino members.
Evans added, in his statement published at Charisma News, "NBCI and its membership base are simply standing on the Word of God within the mind of Christ. We urge our brothers and sisters of the PCUSA to repent and be restored to fellowship."
As the saying goes, in an age of lies, telling the truth is a revolutionary act. Evans and his group can, I think, consider themselves official rebels at this point.
They're certainly putting their heads on the liberal chopping blocks, because they're not only telling the truth that the Left doesn't want to hear, but it's a specifically religious truth.
And religion is at the heart of the homosexual rights movement, particularly "gay" marriage activism.
The Left may talk about "equality" for homosexual couplings, but there really is "no there there" in that argument because homosexuals choose to be what they are, and for the most part nobody cares, unless some homosexual starts waving his lifestyle in people's faces, trying to convert schoolkids, demanding special privileges and otherwise upsetting people who don't endorse his choices.
On the contrary, it has become increasingly obvious over the years that the real motivation behind the homosexual marriage movement is to tear down biblically based religion, as several Christian bakers can now attest.
Acquiescing to political pressure to change church doctrine in order to support a fad will ultimately destroy the meaning of the Christian church.
Evans wrote, "No church has the right to change the Word of God. By voting to redefine marriage PCUSA automatically forfeits Christ’s saving grace. There is always redemption in the body of Christ through confession of faith and adhering to Holy Scripture."
If the Presbyterian Church someday sees the light and repents, it can come back. But until that day comes, it's just on a highway to hell and teaching others to follow down that road.
And that is the truth.
