Chain-smoking Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) struck a morbid note Monday as he refused to commit to another full two-year term atop the House.
Boehner has said repeatedly he is running for reelection both in his district and for Speaker, but he demurred when pressed on whether he would serve out an entire term.
“Listen, I can’t predict what’s going to happen. I’m going to be 65 years old in November,” Boehner said in response to a question from moderator Evan Smith of The Texas Tribune at a Hispanic Chamber of Commerce forum in San Antonio. “I never thought I’d live to be 60, so I’m living on borrowed time.”
