UN Internet Control Treaty Fails

by The Blog

The United Nations wrapped-up their World Conference on International Telecommunications this past Saturday in Dubai.
The conference sought to establish an international consensus on establishing government-led internet controls and regulations.
On Friday, the United States, joined by Canada and the United Kingdom, refused to sign the the UN treaty under consideration.
As China, Russia, and Saudi Arabia pushed to establish internet controls, the United States claimed that such would be a threat to the free and open internet.
The telecommunications conference lasted for twelve days and was attended by participants from 193 nations, including 123 members from the United States.
The United States’ refusal to ratify the treaty is a victory for the free internet as it stands.
Conservative Action Alerts continues to organize faxes and letters to lawmakers demanding that the internet remains free from all government control.
