Pastor Tony Campolo Accepts Sodomy Because He Rejects Scripture

[oped addendum: Just wondering when Tony will come out of the proverbial closet and follow Bruce Jenner]

When we come to any issue, as Christians, there should always be this question that pops into our head.  What does the Bible say?  So whether we are asking a question concerning business, family relations or sexual morality, we should always seek the wisdom of the word of God.  Now, this is the attitude of many Christians, but for those who are only Christian in name, this is not an option.  So, when someone like Tony Campolo declares his acceptance of sodomite couples into his fellowship, we should not be surprised.  He can make this decision because he has rejected Scripture.
Christian News reports

False teacher Tony Campolo announced on Monday that he has decided to endorse and speak out for the inclusion of open homosexuals in the Body of Christ.
“It has taken countless hours of prayer, study, conversation and emotional turmoil to bring me to the place where I am finally ready to call for the full acceptance of Christian gay couples into the Church,” he wrote in a statement posted to his website.
So, we have to ask.  What exactly did Tony study to come to this conclusion?  Many would think from his statement that it would have been the Bible.  This is a Sunday school assumption but is it accurate?  It would seem that if he comes to the conclusion that there are openly gay Christian couples, then it seems very hard for me to believe that the Bible was included in his study.  Now, let’s be clear.  I do not hate sodomites any more than I hate adulterers or thieves.  I also want to make clear that Christians can struggle with the sin of Sodomy and do, but they do not give in to it as a lifestyle.

Christian News continues
“Because of my open concern for social justice, in recent years I have been asked the same question over and over again: Are you ready to fully accept into the Church those gay Christian couples who have made a lifetime commitment to one another?” Campolo outlined. “One reason I am changing my position on this issue is that, through Peggy, I have come to know so many gay Christian couples whose relationships work in much the same way as our own.”

And here is the problem, Tony has given in to the temptation we all must resist.  We cannot look to see what is or is not successful to determine what is right.  There is nothing wrong with knowing and being friendly with sodomites.  Christ ate with prostitutes and tax collectors.  But, we are not to allow our emotional attachments to them to cloud what the Bible says about what they are doing.  They cannot be open practicing sodomites and continue to proclaim deliverance from sin.
Tony Campolo was a false teacher before this announcement, and he has never used Scripture as his all-sufficient authority.  But, when such things are said by such people, we must recognize it and call it by name.  And we should show that such teaching is false and why.  So we will look to see what the Bible says about sodomy.
We first must see that the New Testament teaches that Homosexuality is a sin.

I Timothy 1:9-11 reads
realizing the fact that law is not made for a righteous person, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers and immoral men and homosexuals and kidnappers and liars and perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound teaching, 11 according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, with which I have been entrusted.
And I Corinthians 6:8-10 echos this restriction from the Kingdom of God

On the contrary, you yourselves wrong and defraud. You do this even to your brethren.
Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.
Besides this, the Law is abundantly clear that sodomy is a sin.  But to the issue that Tony brings out, can you continue in a lifestyle of sin and be a Christian?  I Corinthians 6 make it clear that you cannot.  It not only lists the sin of sodomy in its two forms, but also makes clear that those who practice this sin as a habit of life are not in the Kingdom of God.
And though Campolo thinks that by following his wife he is being loving to their sodomite friends.  But, in reality, he is leading them to perdition.  He and all who follow Campolo are driving these people into eternal damnation by convincing them that they are redeemed when they are not.  God have mercy on his followers and deliver them from this devil.
