First and foremost let us address the 2nd Amendment...'The right to bear arms by a regulated militia'...just what is a 'regulated' militia? Taking the writing of the Bill of Rights into proper context and using the wordage used in the 1700's... a 'regulated militia' was the calling up of citizen warriors to defend the rights of a budding nation...they were farmers,builders,store keepers et al...They were called up to defend the right to bear arms and refused to surrender their weapons to the British Monarchy on demand...this is in fact what sparked the American Revolution!
The American Revoultion would never have gotten off the ground had the citizen warriors surrendered their weapons on demand...and would not have been there to supplement George Washington's Continental Army, which was in the fledgeling stage!
What is going on today with the 'Progressive Party USA' [Marxist] is the same thing that went on with the British Monarchy,Hitler,Stalin,Mussolini,PotPol,Stalin,HoCheMin' et al.
In order for the takeover and suspension of all human rights by a dictator... the first step is always the taking away of the arms of the citizen population. Once the population is disarmed they have no means to revolt
What the Progressive Party USA is doing is playing on the far left 'Bleeding Hearts' sensitivity...they stir them up to cry out to 'save the children' and grab every shooting event that pops [Except gang activity in the inner cities] up to continue the ranting,raving and false outrage!
Second: Let's address the so called assault weapons...true assault weapons are restricted to the military and law enforcement agencies...and the few FFL3 owners who must complete a substantial background investigation to own and posses fully automated weapons,silencers,cannons etc which are the true assault weapons...it is illegal already for the general public to possess such weapons without having a FFL3 licence!
The so called assault weapon 'AR15' is nothing more than a 'bad ass' looking semi-auto akin to a semi-auto 22 cal rifle! It just has plastic attributes to make it look like a assault weapon!
There are more than enough laws on the books and requirements to purchase and own weapons...restricting them to law abiding citizens without a criminal nor mentally ill background...more laws and banning of weapons will have zero effect on criminals obtaining weapons of their choice...even if all weapons were banned from the law abiding citizens... criminals could obtain them from organized criminal smugglers outside of the country...and how has the laws against narcotics worked for all the bleeding hearts?...only 10% of all smuggled narcotics are caught that leaves 90% on the open market!
A analogy to put this issue into proper perspective~ a football team ...a team is not a winning team possessing just a great offense or defense...they must have both ...Defense are the laws already on the books...offense is the ability to defend oneself from criminals or a government that went rogue by possessing equal weapons capability. Thus the 'regulated militia' clause of the 'Bill of Rights'
Far more children are slaughtered daily by abortion and criminal perverts who violently rape and murder them ,then by all the shootings combined...check FBI stats! Does this mean we should imprison all the females who choose to kill their children or try to educate them about the wrong they are doing?
Should we chemically or physically casturate all males above the age of 16 years in order to guarantee the small number of perverts are stopped? See this is the catch 22 of the far left loons argument...instead of addressing the true issues they go off on tirades/false outrage demanding the banning of all things they see as offensive to them and them only! Just take a look at NYC Mayor Bloomberg...that man is off his rocker and a hypocrit to boot!
