Al-Qaeda-linked group admits execution of Syrian soldiers

A shadowy al-Qaeda-linked group has claimed responsibility for the execution of 20 Syrian soldiers in the volatile city of Aleppo last month.

"God enabled … the al-Nusra Front in the city of Aleppo to capture and kill 20… soldiers from the Hanano military post," AFP quoted a statement from the Front as saying on Wednesday.

On September 10, a YouTube video showed members of al-Nusra insurgent group executing at least 20 troops in Aleppo.

Most attacks and bombings in Syria are blamed on the al-Nusra Front.

Earlier in the day, several explosions hit Sa’ad Allah al-Jabiri Square in Aleppo, killing at least 31 people and injuring scores of others.

Syrian security forces killed scores of insurgents in Aleppo on Tuesday during intense clashes in the al-Ramouseh Bridge neighborhood.

The Syrian army also inflicted heavy losses on the insurgents in Aleppo’s al-Atareb district on the same day and destroyed four pickup trucks.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011.

Many people, including large numbers of security forces, have been killed in the turmoil in Syria.

The Syrian government says the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country and accuses Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey of arming the insurgents.
