As usual, Obama’s decisions have nothing to do with what they should actually be about.
In a televised statement from the Roosevelt Room of the West Wing, President Obama announced he had sent Congress a draft resolution authorizing the use of force against the Islamic State. “We are strongest as a nation,” he said, “when the president and Congress work together.”
But make no mistake: This resolution has nothing to do with defeating the Islamic State — or respecting the constitutional role accorded Congress in war.
To the contrary, it’s yet another public declaration of limits President Obama seeks to impose on our war-fighting.
