The
Massachusetts Department of Children and Families (DCF) is now under
under intense scrutiny because of a reportedly horrific number of
children who are missing or deceased while under its custody. To make
matters worse, the body of yet another child who was “missing” in the
DCF system was found this weekend.
We
are now aggressively calling on elected officials from Massachusetts
and Connecticut to END Justina Pelletier’s unjustifiable imprisonment
and suffering before she becomes just another chilling DCF statistic!
According to a report in The Boston Globe…
“The
Massachusetts Department of Children and Families had been monitoring
the Oliver family for two years after allegations of neglect, but an
investigation into Jeremiah’s disappearance found that the assigned
social worker had missed mandatory monthly visits between last April and
his sister’s December report that Jeremiah was missing.
That
social worker and two supervisors were fired, but Jose Oliver
[Jeremiah’s father] said the problem goes higher, and that both the
department and Governor Deval Patrick should be punished for what he
considered their negligence.”
++Massive issues surround Massachusetts DCF.
In February, The Boston Globe
issued a shocking report about the DCF’s alleged negligence and the
alarming regularity of children dying while in their system…
“Since
2001, more than 95 Massachusetts children whose cases were overseen by
state social workers have died directly or indirectly because of abuse
or neglect, according to state statistics. The death toll probably is
considerably higher because state officials have not revealed how many
died from 2011 to 2013.
Over
all, children who received services from social workers at DCF in 2010
were about six times as likely as the general population of Bay State
children to die from maltreatment, according to the state’s own
calculations.”
Can you imagine any greater concern as a parent than if your child was mandated to be in the “care” of DCF?
++Justina Pelletier was unjustifiably made a ward of the state and has been in DCF’s “custody” for 14 months.
As
a ward of the state of Massachusetts, Justina has been refused access
to proper medical care and education. She is denied visitation by
clergy, with no regular allowance for religious observances. She and
her parents have been denied their personal rights and have been treated
as “state property.”
As a ward of the state, under Boston Children’s Hospital’s teaching hospital charter, Justina has become a medical guinea pig.
According to BCH’s “Clinical and Investigation Policy and Procedure Manual”…
“Children
who are wards of the state may be included in research that presents
minimal risk… or greater than minimal risk with a prospect of direct
benefit.”
That’s
why, when Lou Pelletier, Justina’s father, offers a dire assessment of
Justina’s condition, every parent across the nation should take note.
“Justina
is in a world of hurt. She is physically and mentally dying. She
doesn’t have much longer.” Lou wonders how much more DCF abuse she’ll be
able to endure.
He
contends that Justina is undergoing behavior modification therapies,
which includes psychotropic drug-based treatments. He asserts that
“Justina is being tortured.”
++We cannot allow Justina to become another tragic DCF statistic!
The
Liberty Counsel legal team has been intensely working on this case. We
believe this is a battle that must be fought on behalf of the Pelletiers
and parents nationwide!
Linda and Lou Pelletier filed a Habeas Corpus pleading with the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court for Justina be released from the DCF and be returned to their custody.
But, while we await the court date, we cannot allow Justina to wither away in the DCF’s system and further risk her health.
++Fax Massachusetts and Connecticut executives and lawmakers and demand Justina’s release!
We
are calling on every elected official from Massachusetts and
Connecticut to take action against the DCF’s unjustifiable imprisonment
of Justina and demand her release!
++Justina is crying out for help.
Last
week, Lou Pelletier released a photo of a portion of an incriminating
letter he says Justina snuck to them during one of their infrequent,
highly supervised visits.
The haunting letter contains insight as to how she is being treated while in DCF imprisonment…
“‘They
hurt me all the time push me all the time and more,’ the note from
Justina says. It also says ‘[they] do not let me sleep vary [sic] much.
“Hury [sic]!’”
Justina’s sister feels that her cognitive decline under DCF custody is even worse than that of her physical body.
Liberty Counsel is working to have this gross abuse of the rights of
Justina Pelletier and the Pelletier family stopped immediately.
We
are exhausting all legal means to get Justina returned to her family
and given proper medical care before Justina’s health deteriorates any
further.
