House Leaders Finally Putting Pressure On Eric Holder

For the past six months, House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa seems to have been waging a one man battle with US Attorney General Eric Holder about the failed Operation Fast and Furious.  Over one hundred other members of the House have called for Holder’s resignation and have signed a letter of contempt against him, but to date, none of the other House leaders have joined Issa’s cause until now.

Finally, House Whip Kevin McCarthy, Majority Leader Eric Cantor and House Speaker John Boehner have agreed to send a letter to Holder in which they are demanding that he release the rest of the documentation requested by Issa and his committee.  The letter firmly asks Holder to reveal all who were involved with the planning of Fast and Furious and for all of the communications from February 4, 2011.    Just two days after Groundhog Day in 2011, Issa received a letter from the Department of Justice stating that they were not involved in gun walking.  This claim of innocence has since been proven to be a lie and indicated signs of the DOJ trying to cover up their involvement.

Part of the letter reads,
“Two key questions remain unanswered: first, who on your leadership team was informed of the reckless tactics used in Fast and Furious prior to Agent Terry’s murder; and, second, did your leadership team mislead or misinform Congress in response to a Congressional subpoena?”

“One fact appears to be undisputed by all concerned: Fast and Furious was a fundamentally flawed operation.  It was taken to an extreme that resulted in at least one death of a U.S. Border Patrol agent and unknown other consequences, because U.S, law enforcement agencies allowed thousands of firearms to be illegally ‘walked’ into Mexico and into the hands of drug cartels.”
“Beyond the horrific impact on the Terry family, there is no doubt that this operation has done serious harm to one f the United States’ most important bilateral relationships. It is our hope that, in finding the truth, we can both provide closure to the Terry family, begin to repair our relationship with Mexico, and take steps to make necessary changes at the Department.”
By sending this letter, it shows Holder and President Barack Obama that the House leadership is now firmly behind and supportive of Issa and his investigation.  If Holder continues to refuse to furnish all of the subpoenaed documentation, it’s now more probable that the House will take action against him.  One can only hope that they take action soon and stop him of his relentless and lawless attack of US citizens and their rights.
