College or Work Experience..?

This is the question most young people ponder after graduation from High School..should I enter the work field~entry level and work my way up the proverbial ladder or Join the Military vs attending college!
Well in todays market it would be wise to either concentrate on a job field vs attending college and obtaining a degree... that for most part  is a dime a dozen degree that will not guarantee employment and only gets one into serious student loan debt!

My grandaughter for instance after graduating from HS got a job and attended college part time... after a year she had a student loan debt ...she said gramps this sux...so she dropped out of college and concentrated on a career field accepting numerous jobs to gain the right experience( Over a 5 year period) her first real job was a student/worker her Senior year of HS at the Storey County Sheriffs office...She paid off her student loan debt and is making $16.50 per hour  now as a Insurance claims and estimator for the largest High End Auto Body Shop in Reno ,Nevada (with a future of a much higher salary thru promotion)Her fiance HS sweethearts decided not to go to college and took Pt Jobs throughout HS in his hobbie interests dirt bike parts/sales & maintenance..He landed a job in fabrication and certified welding earns $30.00 per hour [They both race moto-cross and desert dirt bike racing!]

Now this may not work for everyone..it takes persistence, drive and a desire to obtain actual real time experience vs general college level training which seems to be not be working for some 90% of the college graduates today!

The other option would be to enlist in the military and take a career field that would relate to civilian occupations...one gains character, drive and ambition while serving in the military as well as time to mature...this the military does well..one grows up fast while serving!
I just made some suggestions to help those who may be tired of College BS and student loan debt only to graduate and the only job they can find is competing with other graduates for a slot at McDonalds!

Have a Nice day...:)

  1. It would be really up to the person who is in that situation. It would depend on how responsible they are in handling a situation. Working and studying at the same time could be an worthwhile option. However, that individual should first take into account the pros and cons of the situation, to come up with a sound decision.
