Here in the US, we are accustomed to believing we live in a relatively civilized society. We have police to handle those that break the laws and for the most part, we do live in a very good era. Long gone are the days where people can slip through the cracks, or that’s what it seems like with the constant scandals uncovered, Edward Snowden, Wikileaks or just about everyone seems ready to start broadcasting what they consider wrong. Despite all of the Modern Technology Human Trafficking is still alive and well living on the fringes of society. Trump is taking action to aid in the fight against this evil.
Trump has realized the seriousness of this horrid issue and has taken steps in efforts to not only shine some light on this rather shadowy issue but also start funding its destruction.
“Human trafficking is a modern form of the oldest and most barbaric type of exploitation. It has no place in our world. This month we do not simply reflect on this appalling reality. We also pledge to do all in our power to end the horrific practice of human trafficking that plagues innocent victims around the world.”
That’s why Trump is starting this year off right taking on an issue that plagues the world an issue that enslaves a large number of people.
“Human trafficking is a sickening crime at odds with our very humanity. An estimated 25 million people are currently victims of human trafficking for both sex and labor. Human traffickers prey on their victims by promising a life of hope and greater opportunity, while delivering only enslavement. Instead of delivering people to better lives, traffickers unjustifiably profit from the labor and toil of their victims, who they force — through violence and intimidation — to work in brothels and factories, on farms and fishing vessels, in private homes, and in countless industries.”
In order to step up against this Modern day slavery, Trump has not only making this month an awareness month but also has signed an executive order that should help to rid the world of this problem. On December 21, 2017, the order “Blocking the Property of Persons Involved in Serious Human Rights Abuse or Corruption.” was signed.
The order will make it much harder for those involved in the sex trafficking trade to function in the U.S. Traffickers will have their funds, property, and any other assets frozen upon discovery of their misconduct. It will also freeze any suspected traffickers accomplice’s accounts as well making the US a less feasible place for them to reside.
Trump Also plans to sign another executive order that will make it harder for sex traffickers to use our roadways. “The Combating Human Trafficking in Commercial Vehicles Act, and the No Human Trafficking on Our Roads Act.”
“Solving the human Trafficking Epidemic, which is what it is, is a priority for my Administration”
Trump is taking on a big issue that he should be commended for, as his actions will make it harder for the sex slave trade to exist in the United States. Hopefully with some Global communication and further action Sex Trafficking will one day become a thing of the past.
