I'm thinking yes...he was not liked by his opposition he used out of the box thinking...however no matter how you judge his rule...he did win the war of 1812...the second attempt by the British to take back the colonies!
He used Native American tactics ( now called Special Op's) which were not approved of by the British nor the elite's. After the war he went on to become POTUS and was even more disliked by his opposition...oh well deja vu!
